All’s Fair Director Defends Hulu Series After 6% Rotten Tomatoes Score

Hulu’s new legal drama, All’s Fair, has been met with overwhelmingly negative reviews. The series, created by Ryan Murphy, currently has a score of just 6% on Rotten Tomatoes. Director Anthony Hemingway recently responded to the criticism, speaking out in defense of the show, which stars Kim Kardashian.

The show received harsh criticism after its first three episodes aired. Despite featuring a well-known cast – including Kim Kardashian, Naomi Watts, Sarah Paulson, Glenn Close, Niecy Nash-Betts, and Teyana Taylor – it was almost universally panned by reviewers. USA Today called it “the worst TV show of the year,” while a critic at The Guardian described it as “fascinatingly” bad.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hemingway said viewers are welcome to feel however they want about the show. He pointed out that it’s impossible for any TV series to please everyone, so he isn’t bothered by the mixed reactions to All’s Fair and doesn’t take criticism to heart.

It’s impossible to make everyone happy. You’ll always have people who criticize something, while others will absolutely love it. I think this show really lets people see themselves in it – it’s about whether you can connect with the story and relate to the characters. Sometimes something just isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay. That applies to anything you see on TV or in a movie.

This show is meant to be funny and entertaining, and it tries to capture real-life conversations and relationships in a unique way. It might take some getting used to, and it won’t appeal to everyone – and that’s perfectly fine. I personally found it enjoyable and relatable. Ultimately, not everything is for everyone, and one person’s opinion shouldn’t be the only way to view something.

You know, Hemingway was making a good point about All’s Fair. He said we shouldn’t rush to judge it right away, and I totally agree! It just came out, and those early Rotten Tomatoes scores? They’re rarely accurate. As of today, November 4th, 2025, it simply hasn’t had enough reviews to get a real sense of what people think. The director is really hoping folks will give it a chance and form their own opinions before dismissing it – and I think that’s fair enough.

I think things often need time to resonate with audiences. Take The Wire, for example. When it first aired, almost nobody liked it – people didn’t watch it, and ratings were very low. But eventually, it found its moment and became incredibly popular. I’m not saying this show is the same as The Wire, but it illustrates how reactions to something can change over time. This show might take a little while to get going, but I genuinely believe it’s offering something fresh and creatively satisfying.

He encouraged viewers to approach the show with an open mind, rather than assuming it would be bad. Hemingway hoped people would respect Murphy’s creative choices and give ‘All’s Fair’ a fair chance.

Try not to overthink it or take things too literally. The style is unique and will naturally develop a more relatable, human quality over time. Ryan really cared about letting people explore their dreams. He wanted to create a space where people could experience things they might not be able to in real life – a place to escape and live out fantasies, bringing a little joy and wish fulfillment to the world.

You can now watch the first three episodes of All’s Fair on Hulu. New episodes come out every Tuesday at 3 AM Eastern Time and 12 AM Pacific Time.
