Amazon Game Studios is no longer working with Maverick Games, the team developing a new open-world racing game.
The Game Business reports that the company has decided not to release the game, which hasn’t been officially announced yet.
Despite this setback, the game isn’t cancelled. The developer, Maverick, is still actively working on it and is now looking for a new collaborator to help finish the project.
Maverick Games is a UK game studio founded in 2022. It’s led by industry veterans like Mike Brown, formerly the creative director for the popular Forza Horizon racing games.
Amazon stated it greatly values the Maverick Games team and explained that ending their publishing deal will give Maverick Games the freedom to partner with a publisher whose goals are a better fit for releasing their game.
News of Amazon shutting down its game King of Meat confirms the company is scaling back its gaming efforts. However, it appears the Tomb Raider franchise will continue to be supported.
Harinder Sangha, studio head of Brown and Maverick, expressed gratitude for Amazon Games’ support and teamwork. He also stated that development of their first game is proceeding well and that they’re discussing future plans with potential partners, with more details expected later this year.
We’re eager to hear more about this game soon, as it looks like it could be really great. We hope the developers find a publisher quickly so they can share it with everyone.
