Amazon’s Bond 26 Wish List Revealed: 3 Actors in the Running, Plus 2 Major Surprises!

Despite the rapid pace of developments in the 2025 movie schedule, it appears that James Bond won’t be back before the end of the year. I must admit, I didn’t anticipate a change, but with Denis Villeneuve, renowned for his work on Dune, now attached as director for James Bond 26, it feels like the Aston Martin DB5 is getting ready to roar.

Currently, it appears that Amazon-MGM Studios might be changing direction, as there are whispers of three potential candidates for the tuxedo role. Two additional rumors have sparked some deeper contemplation regarding these recent developments and future steps.

Tom Holland And Two Other Actors Allegedly Make Up Amazon’s Bond 26 Wish List

It’s interesting to recall a period when talk about a “Young Bond” film starring Tom Holland seemed somewhat unexpected. However, according to Variety’s anonymous sources, he is among the top three candidates under consideration by the executive team at Amazon and MGM for the role of the next Commander Bond.

In addition to the current Spider-Man cast, Jacob Elordi from Euphoria and Harris Dickinson, who’s gained strong contention after The King’s Man, are also part of the team. Compared to Spider-Man: New Day and Christopher Nolan’s Odyssey, Holland seems least likely for future roles as his 2026 schedule is already packed and busy.

If it boils down to Elordi and Dickinson for a role, I’d lean towards the latter, as I haven’t explored Elordi’s filmography enough yet. Regarding Bond, even though IO Interactive previously suggested against it, there’s still a chance for Patrick Gibson, who was rumored for First Light, to be our next James Bond. However, other factors could potentially impact the debut of whichever actor we might choose for Bond 26.

Denis Villeneuve’s Bond 26 Is Supposedly A One And Done Deal, With No Final Cut

Initially, I had grown accustomed to the idea that Villeneuve’s involvement in Bond 26 might lead to Christopher Nolan being warmly received. However, that notion seems to be fading now, as it appears Denis Villeneuve has encountered a common issue: he is not given the final cut authority over his James Bond project.

In simpler terms, it seems that the caveats mentioned imply that the decision to hire James Bond (007) will primarily rest with producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman. This suggests that Denis Villeneuve may not play a significant role in the casting process for the next Bond. If he does have some input, it could add complexity as he might require more time to adjust to the new actor chosen to portray Commander Bond, especially considering his work on Blade Runner 2049.

What adds to the oddness is that, referring to the same source mentioned earlier, Nolan was reportedly strongly considered by Amazon-MGM Studios for directing the upcoming 007 film. Yet, it seems like “The Odyssey” project may have been a stumbling block, as it’s set to debut next summer. This speculation not only leaves me wondering if Tom Holland might be out due to potential reshoots or promotional commitments, but also hints at a potentially record-breaking disappointment.

A Bond 26 Release Date Prior To 2028 Is Supposedly “Impossible”

It seems that the most concerning update in this situation is that the release date for Bond 26, initially slated for 2027, no longer appears to be valid. Instead, it’s being suggested by unnamed sources with inside knowledge that such a timeline is too challenging. If these reports are accurate, then the new potential window for this film would be in 2028, meaning there could be nearly seven years between “No Time To Die” and this next Bond movie.

It seems that the scale of Bond 26 is causing some unease on the horizon. However, you might recall that Casino Royale, featuring Daniel Craig, was produced in less than a year from his announcement in October 2005 to filming between January and July 2006, with the movie hitting theaters in November.

Is anyone else in need of another round of martini, since it seems like all the pieces are falling into place, albeit with a few exceptions? I understand that bumps along the road are common during transitions; however, some of these predictions are adding a bit more weight to the future of the James Bond series.

It seems like we need to pause for a bit, gather ourselves, and wait for more information. No matter what comes next, let’s hope it’s the wisest choice, because as 007 movies have shown us, revealing your plans before taking action against Agent Bond is certainly not wise.
