Michael B. Jordan has a lot on his plate right now – he recently earned an Oscar nomination for his work in a film, and he’s also set to direct a new take on The Thomas Crown Affair. Despite all of that, he’s still involved with the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios series based on Fourth Wing.
As a huge fan of Fourth Wing, I was so relieved to hear Michael B. Jordan and his production company, Outlier Society, are still moving forward with the Amazon series! It’s had a few bumps in the road, but Jordan recently said they’re really focused on making something the fans will absolutely adore. That’s great news, and I’m even more excited about the adaptation now!
The actor talked about being nominated for an Oscar and shared news about his next film. He also gave an exciting preview of the series he’s producing, explaining that the team is focused on creating a show that will both satisfy fans and surprise them with unexpected twists.
He emphasized how much fans love this franchise and assured everyone they are working hard on it. Jordan explained that, even after almost three years, the project is still in the beginning phases, but confirmed they are making progress. He said, “We’re actively developing it, and it will be released.”
This romantasy series is inspired by Rebecca Yarros’s hugely popular Empyrean books. It centers on Violet Sorrengail, a 20-year-old who trades her quiet life among books for the dangerous world of dragon-riding, where she unexpectedly falls for the intriguing and defiant Xaden Riorson.
The book series quickly became popular on BookTop and remained on the New York Times Bestsellers list for 25 weeks. The first book came out in 2023, and a TV adaptation was greenlit the same year. Since then, two sequels have been released: Iron Flame, published soon after the announcement, and Onyx Storm, which was released on January 21, 2025. The author plans to write five books in total, with two more still upcoming.
The Fourth Wing Adaptation Had Several Hiccups
In January 2025, Rebecca Yarros, the author of the series, shared an update, mentioning she had reviewed two versions of the script and was very pleased with them. A month later, she indicated that work was still ongoing.
Moira Walley-Beckett, who initially signed on in 2024 to adapt the story, departed the project in 2025. Further changes were announced in October when it was revealed that an executive producer of Wednesday Season 2 would also take on the roles of showrunner and writer.
Fourth Wing doesn’t have a release date, but it’s set to debut on Prime Video.
