It’s official: Ryan Hurst will star as Kratos in the new God of War series coming to Amazon Prime Video.
After appearing in shows like Sons of Anarchy (as Opie Winston), The Walking Dead (as Beta), and Remember the Titans (as Gerry Bertier), actor Jovan Hurst will play Kratos in the upcoming live-action God of War series. Interestingly, this isn’t Hurst’s first involvement with the franchise – he previously voiced Thor in God of War Ragnarok.
This TV series takes its story from the last two God of War games. Here’s the official premise:
Kratos and his son, Atreus, travel together to scatter the ashes of a beloved wife and mother, Faye. Along the way, Kratos attempts to guide Atreus in becoming a strong and honorable god, while Atreus tries to help his father reconnect with his humanity.
Amazon has renewed the show for two more seasons, and production is slated to start within the next few months.
Santa Monica Studio shared their enthusiasm for a new actor’s interpretation of Kratos, celebrating him as the latest addition to a distinguished group that includes T.C. Carson and Christopher Judge, all of whom have left a lasting mark on the character.
Fans of the games will recognize Kratos as a Spartan warrior who became a god. He was trained for combat and led armies for Sparta until he made a dangerous deal with the god Ares. In exchange for winning battles, Kratos sacrificed his soul.
Ryan Hurst has appeared in several films, including Saving Private Ryan where he played Paratrooper Michaelson, and Superman: Man of Tomorrow as Lobo. He’s also cast in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, The Odyssey. On television, he starred as Milligan in Disney’s The Mysterious Benedict Society.
