Amazon’s Replacement For ‘The Office’ Keeps Getting Better And Better

Even after 13 years, people still adore The Office and many wish the show would return. While a revival of this classic NBC sitcom seems unlikely, fans often enjoy shows that capture a similar sense of humor and feature quirky, memorable characters. Viewers love The Office‘s cast and their unique personalities, and often imagine how those characters would fare in a workplace led by someone like Michael Scott.

I just finished watching Jury Duty on Prime Video, and wow, it’s something else! It’s this incredible show that mixes reality TV with the style of a sitcom – seriously, it feels like an episode of The Office is unfolding in real time. It’s so cleverly done, and now I’m half-expecting my next job interview to be a prank! If you haven’t seen it yet, you absolutely need to check it out – it’s a wild ride and completely addictive.

Amazon Prime Video’s ‘Jury Duty’ Is the Ultimate Immersive Experience for Fans of ‘The Office’

The show Jury Duty first became popular with its first season, starring James Marsden and centered around a real court case and the people on the jury. Now, Season 2, called Jury Duty: Company Retreat, is out, and it follows Anthony Norman, a new temporary employee at the hot sauce company Rockin’ Grandma’s. He and his coworkers go on a company retreat, but what Anthony doesn’t realize is that everyone else is an actor and the entire retreat is fake!

The new comedy Jury Duty comes from the team behind The Office, and they’ve done a great job of creating characters that feel like they’d fit right into that show. For instance, Dougie, the somewhat immature but driven heir to a business, is reminiscent of both Andy Bernard and Ryan Howard from The Office at different times. Customer service agent Amy would probably become fast friends with Kelly Kapoor, and they’d likely bond over their love of Taylor Swift. The well-intentioned but awkward HR Manager, Kevin, shares traits with Michael Scott and Toby Flenderson – a comparison Michael Scott himself would definitely dislike.

The show feels like it’s populated with characters straight out of The Office, and the scenarios they find themselves in echo that show as well. Kevin’s unexpected proposal to Amy, despite their lack of romance, is exactly the kind of thing Michael Scott would do, and Anthony’s uncomfortable filming of it feels like something Ryan Howard would be pressured into. Even the small, everyday conversations the characters have could easily fit as transitional scenes in The Office, like those happening in the break room or kitchen.

Although the first season of Jury Duty is enjoyable, the second season truly captures the spirit of The Office, especially with its focus on workplace dynamics. The characters feel like they could have stepped right out of The Office’s Superfan episodes, and their behavior is even funnier knowing the main person in each story isn’t aware of the elaborate prank. If you’ve ever wished you were part of The Office’s quirky and hilarious world, maybe it’s time to consider a career change – you never know, you might just end up as the unsuspecting star of Jury Duty!
