Amber Heard is giving a rare statement.
In the new documentary Silenced, actress Amber Heard, known for her role in Aquaman, shares how the legal fights with her former husband, Johnny Depp, have impacted her life. The film also examines how defamation laws can be used against women who speak out about abuse.
In a documentary that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 24th, she told director Selina Miles, as reported by Variety, that she had lost her voice and didn’t want to share her story. ‘This isn’t about me,’ she explained. ‘I’ve lost the ability to speak, and I don’t want to use my voice anymore—that’s the core issue.’
In 2016, shortly after Amber Heard, then 39, filed for divorce from Johnny Depp, 62, she claimed he had been verbally and physically abusive. Depp denied these accusations.
Two years after the initial allegations, Johnny Depp filed a lawsuit against the British newspaper The Sun. The case stemmed from an article that accused him of domestic violence towards his then-wife, Amber Heard. Heard worked with human rights lawyer Jennifer Robinson during the legal proceedings, which Depp ultimately lost in 2020.
In the film, she explained that her involvement was crucial to the trial’s result, and she, in turn, needed that result to go a certain way. She added that her experience was an extreme example of the challenges many women face.
Heard explained that her ongoing involvement in the case started to damage how the public saw her.
She remembers that after the trial ended, someone suggested she speak to the press. Robinson questioned if she was certain she wanted to do that. She thought, ‘Even if people reacted negatively, it would highlight the issue.’ She didn’t realize how much more difficult it could become for her, as a woman, simply by speaking out.

The legal battle continued in 2019 when Johnny Depp sued Amber Heard for defamation. This lawsuit stemmed from an article she wrote for The Washington Post in December 2018, where she described experiencing domestic abuse without mentioning Depp by name.
In June 2022, after a highly publicized six-week trial that was livestreamed, a jury found in favor of Depp, determining that he had been defamed.
Looking forward, Heard – a mother to 4-year-old Oonagh and 8-month-old twins Agnes and Ocean – felt hopeful about the future.
Seeing other people stand up for what’s right gives me hope,” she shared in the documentary. “It’s inspiring to see women challenging unfair power dynamics. And watching my daughter grow up makes me believe things can improve for her generation.

A supporter of Johnny Depp brought two alpacas to the Fairfax County Circuit Court in Virginia on April 25th to show her support. One alpaca even wore a sign saying, “We’re with you, Johnny.”

On April 27th, Johnny Depp was seen with a notebook labeled “Built to Last,” featuring a crowned green figure on the cover. Fans watching the trial online noticed he frequently sketched in it during breaks, and many found it touching to see.

During the trial, many noticed a curious detail: Johnny Depp kept small snacks, like gummy bears and jellybeans, on his desk. There were even moments caught on camera where he appeared to be offering candy to people in the courtroom, leading some to wonder if it was a nod to his role in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

A video taken outside the courthouse shows Johnny Depp arriving and jokingly saying, “Back in the little room again,” as Bob Marley’s song “Exodus” played from his car speakers.
After the video surfaced online, people on social media quickly shared their reactions to Johnny Depp’s music choice. One Twitter user called it a “big vibe,” while another admitted to watching the clip repeatedly, saying it “never gets old.”

A strange video deposition from Alejandro Romero, a front desk attendant at the building where Johnny Depp and Amber Heard used to live, left everyone in the courtroom confused on April 27th. Romero gave his statement while vaping in his car, and even continued answering questions as he drove away. Heard’s lawyer described it as “the most bizarre deposition” she’d ever seen.
The judge concurred, stating, “I have to admit, this is a first for me.” Judge Penney Azcarate added, “I’ve presided over many cases, but I’ve never encountered a situation quite like this one.”

As a lifestyle observer, I have to say the recent trial really captured everyone’s attention, even over the smallest details! It was fascinating to watch Dr. Shannon Curry, a psychologist brought in by Depp’s team, testify. During questioning by Heard’s lawyer, Elaine Bredehoft, the conversation took a surprisingly quirky turn. Bredehoft was trying to understand Curry’s testimony and asked if her husband had brought Amber Heard muffins the day of the evaluation. Dr. Curry’s response? She politely requested to clarify exactly what happened, seemingly eager to move past the ‘muffin’ discussion! It just shows you how even seemingly insignificant details can become points of focus in high-profile cases.
Curry explained she was delayed and had asked her husband to get muffins from a nearby bakery for the office, not specifically for Amber Heard.
I remember when he brought those muffins back to the house, and I took them with me to the office. Ms. Heard and I both really enjoyed them. I think I told her something like, ‘My husband picked these up for us today,’ meaning he was the one who bought them and we were eating them thanks to him.
The strange conversation quickly spread on TikTok, and many users compared it to a funny scene from the movie Shrek where characters repeatedly ask about the “Muffin Man.”
