Pearl Abyss has decided to postpone the release of their anticipated role-playing game, Crimson Desert, until the first three months of 2026 on PlayStation 5, which is now its estimated launch window.
It was expected that the open-world game would come out later this year, but during next week’s Gamescom Opening Night Live, they were supposed to announce a definite release date. However, it appears that the developer requires additional time for organizing their schedule, coordinating with various partners for offline distribution, voice-overs, console approval, and other launch preparations, which has delayed its release.

As a dedicated fan, I was disappointed to learn about the delay of the anticipated release during Pearl Abyss’ Q2 2025 earnings call, as reported by Gematsu. The studio expressed their sincere apologies for not meeting the initial fourth quarter launch schedule and asked for understanding since this decision was made strategically with the goal of achieving a significant level of success.
We’ve set the official launch date for the first quarter of 2026 internally, but due to a shift in timings, we won’t disclose it yet. Instead, we’ll share the date when it’s more convenient for our business needs. We appreciate your ongoing support and promise to make future experiences even more enjoyable.
Crimson Desert, as depicted in its trailers and gameplay demos, has consistently left audiences in awe due to its vast open-world setting and numerous interactive systems and features. During our playtest at Gamescom last year, we were left feeling both overpowered by the experience and genuinely impressed.
At that time, we expressed that with Black Myth: Wukong becoming real, it shows that games labeled ‘too good to be true’ in recent years can indeed be exceptional. We speculated that Crimson Desert might join Game Science in delivering such remarkable titles.
