AMC’s Interview With the Vampire Reinvention Returns With Thrilling Rotten Tomatoes Score

Fans waited two years for the return of Interview With the Vampire, but the show has been reimagined for AMC as The Vampire Lestat.

The new series is based on Anne Rice’s second novel in The Vampire Chronicles. It follows the main vampire, Lestat, and his experiences after the events of the first two seasons of Interview With the Vampire. That show, which premiered in 2022, was a big success and beautifully adapted the original novel into two highly-rated seasons. The Vampire Lestat also received critical acclaim, earning a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The show currently has a perfect 100% rating based on 10 reviews, which is consistent with the high scores it’s received in the past. Both Season 1 and Season 2 also earned near-perfect ratings, with 98% and 100% approval respectively.

What Happens in The Vampire Lestat?

While Interview With the Vampire first presented a cast of characters, the story primarily focuses on Louis de Pointe du Lac, who recounts his experiences becoming a vampire and his relationship with the vampire Lestat.

In The Vampire Lestat, the story is told from Lestat’s perspective. Unlike Louis, who was brooding and withdrawn, Lestat decides to share his side of things in a typically flamboyant way: he becomes a famous rock star and embarks on a world tour.

Sam Reid will reprise his role as the main character, and Jacob Anderson returns as Louis. Eric Bogosian, a veteran of the series, will also be back as Daniel Molloy. Joining these returning cast members, Season 3 of The Vampire Lestat will introduce new characters, notably Akasha, the Queen of the Damned, played by Sheila Atim, known for her role in The Woman King.

The cast also includes Noah Reid (known from Schitt’s Creek as Larry, Ryan Kattner (Destroy All Neighbors) as Salamander, Seamus Patterson (Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities) as Alex, and Sarah Swire (The Boys) as TC. In addition to the series itself, AMC is reviving a popular format with a new release.

What Are Critics Saying About The Vampire Lestat?

This new version of the series builds on what came before without losing any of the original’s charm. It adds depth and broadens the story established in the first two seasons.

According to Daniel Kurland at Bloody Disgusting, The Vampire Lestat delivers everything fans could hope for and more. He describes it as a thoughtful exploration of fame, the power of fandom, and lasting impact, taking the characters and their connections to their most fulfilling points. Kurland believes it’s the best adaptation of Anne Rice’s work so far.

Carly Lane from Collider also gave the series a positive review, noting that the impressive qualities of The Vampire Lestat demonstrate how the show, which launched AMC’s Immortal Universe, can continue to evolve and stay compelling.

Federica Bocco from Winter Is Coming praised the show, calling it more than just entertainment. She described The Vampire Lestat as a remarkably complex and honest piece of storytelling, unlike anything else on television right now.

The Vampire Lestat premieres on AMC and AMC+ on June 7.
