The popular television series “American Dad” is coming back on Fox for a new season, and some modifications will be made. As reported by Variety, the show’s executive producer Matt Weitzman mentioned during the panel at San Diego Comic-Con that the series needs to adapt to broadcast norms, which includes monitoring the language used by characters more closely. In other words, expressions like “shit” and “God damn it” will no longer be part of the dialogue. Despite these changes, the show appears eager to revisit storylines from earlier episodes as it approaches its 400th episode.
During the discussion, it was disclosed that the forthcoming 400th episode of the show – an accomplishment rarely achieved by animated series – will feature Stan coming perilously close to death during his 400th mission. In a surprising twist, he learns that the CIA had already substituted him with a clone. Although clones have not previously been a part of the show’s narrative, they have introduced a character named Bill who often stands in for Stan due to their similar roles in the CIA. Bill can be distinguished from Stan by his thick southern accent. Cloning is not unheard of on American Dad, as evidenced by Season 4’s episode “Son of Stan,” where Stan resorted to cloning Steve to demonstrate his superior parenting skills compared to Francine. Previously, we have also witnessed clones of Stan in the episode “It’s Good to be Queen,” where one of them was accidentally shot by Francine.
For this crucial episode, we’re in store for a whirlwind of chaos, as hinted by the executive producers. They also tantalized us with the news that the new season will feature a space-themed anthology with tales set beyond our usual storyline. To add to the excitement, Weitzman disclosed a host of renowned guest stars joining the cast this season, boasting an impressive roster of talent such as Mary Steenburgen, Ted Danson from ‘The Good Place’, Joe Mantegna from ‘Criminal Minds’, Chris Pine from ‘Star Trek’, Ming Na Wen from ‘Agents of SHIELD’, RuPaul, Wayne Newton, Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump, Jonathan Frakes also from ‘Star Trek’, and Kyle Maclachlan from ‘Twin Peaks’.
Over the years, “American Dad” has switched between Fox and TBS networks, initially airing on Fox for eight seasons before transitioning to TBS for ten. Now, with Season 20 underway, it’s been confirmed that Fox will continue to air the series for another four seasons. Producer Weitzman is thrilled about this development, expressing his joy by saying, “I was absolutely ecstatic when I learned we’d be back on Fox for four more years. I had thought we might move to a different network for a while, but returning to Fox is incredibly exciting.
The upcoming season of “American Dad” is set to air on Fox later this autumn. In the meantime, enthusiasts can catch up with previous episodes by streaming the show on Hulu.
