The popular horror series American Horror Story, created by Ryan Murphy, is coming back for a 13th season next year with a fantastic cast. The show is known for bringing back familiar faces, and season 13 will be no different. A particularly well-loved actor, who was a regular in many previous seasons but left after season 10, is returning – and has now shared the reasons behind their initial departure.
Sarah Paulson will be back for season 13 of American Horror Story, which is set to air next year. Paulson has been a key part of the show since its beginning, becoming a lead in the second season and remaining a regular until season 10. In a recent interview with Variety, she shared how much the series impacted her life, but also explained that after ten seasons, she needed a break.
Sarah Paulson described a strange experience she’s discussed with other actors. She explained that when she spends months intensely portraying fear, her body reacts as if the danger is real. Essentially, she fully immerses herself in a role to the point where she physically experiences the emotions, like hyperventilating and feeling like she needs to escape, even if it’s just acting.
Paulson has kept up with her fellow actors through group chats, but she’s thrilled to be filming again with Jessica Lange, Angela Bassett, Evan Peters, and Kathy Bates in season 13. She’s really looking forward to returning to the show.
Paulson said he was disappointed to have missed the event, but is excited about the possibility of doing it again. He explained that he had been wanting to reconnect with everyone involved, and the timing felt perfect when the opportunity arose.
Details about Season 13 are still limited, but we know it will bring back several familiar faces alongside Sarah Paulson, Angela Bassett, Kate Bates, Jessica Lange, and Evan Peters. Ariana Grande, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe, and Leslie Grossman are also returning. The season appears to be linking back to previous installments, as a line from Emma Roberts’ character Madison Montgomery in ‘Coven’ was used in the teaser: “Surprise, bitch. I bet you thought you’d seen the last of me.” You can watch the full teaser above.
American Horror Story season 13 is expected to debut in 2026.
