Seann William Scott is breaking down his bank statements.
During his current legal disputes involving Olivia Korenberg (his ex-wife), the actor known for “American Pie” provided a declaration on August 18 that outlined his regular income and expenses, as reported by several media sources based on court documents.
In the documentation, Seann, who has a 5-year-old daughter Frankie Rose with an interior designer, revealed that his monthly income averages approximately $110,000, along with around $45,000 in royalties and about $31,000 from investment earnings, according to various reports.
Simultaneously, this actor, known for his roles in shows like “Shifting Gears”, “The Righteous Gemstones”, and “Lethal Weapon” of late, calculated his monthly costs to be around $60,000. This sum encompasses approximately $15,000 in property taxes, $5,000 for repairs, $2,500 on groceries, and $1,500 spent on new clothing items.
This individual’s filing detailed a significant wealth, encompassing approximately $18.2 million in investments. This includes $158,000 in liquid assets like cash and savings, along with more than $12.2 million in stocks and bonds. The property portfolio exceeded $18.7 million, with ownership of three homes located in Los Angeles. Additional assets listed were a Mini Cooper hatchback valued at about $30,000, a Honda Passport SUV worth around $55,000, furnishings amounting to $171,000 and artwork appraised at roughly $93,000.
Initially, Seann’s wealth wasn’t as substantial. In March 2022, he shared that he earned only $8,000 for his role in the first American Pie movie back in 1999. However, he pointed out that this amount was a significant sum for him at that time.
“Reflecting back, I purchased a second-hand Thunderbird for around $5,000 to $6,000. I can’t seem to recall where the additional $2,000 went as I ended up having to work at the LA Zoo selling churros. So, it might have cost me less than $8,000 in total.”
He said this on The Rich Eisen Show in 2022.
However, despite the massive success of the growing-up comedy, leading to three follow-ups in theaters and five spin-offs, Seann expressed some reservations about returning to the bawdy series once more.
On the Inside of You podcast in July 2023, he stated that a potential comedy project would need to evolve significantly, becoming more relevant to modern audiences. So, it remains to be seen.
To see what more stars have said about their earnings, keep reading.
As a devoted fan following in the footsteps of dance stardom, I’ve learned that although there isn’t a monetary reward for claiming the coveted mirrorball trophy on Dancing With the Stars, each contestant fortunate enough to reach the finale receives compensation up until that point. Moreover, it’s also worth mentioning that a generous bonus is part of the package. This insightful tidbit comes from Jenna Johnson, who triumphed in season 33 alongside Joey Graziadei, herself a testament to the dance floor success that can yield both fame and financial rewards.
If you emerge victorious in this dance competition, Johnson clarified, it’s important to understand that the prize isn’t a large monetary sum like a million dollars, but rather a delightful trophy. For those dancers who depart from the ballroom earlier, as she explained, they are assured a minimum number of weeks within certain timeframes.
As per various sources, the initial salary for dancers starts at around $1,200 to $1,600 per episode, potentially escalating up to an impressive $100,000 per season. However, it’s worth noting that ABC has not confirmed these figures. Conversely, celebrities begin with a salary of $125,000, and as they progress in the competition, they receive further bonuses. The semifinalists and finalists can earn up to an additional $50,000.
Jennifer Lawrence, the acclaimed Oscar winner, earned a whopping $25 million for playing a role in Adam McKay’s comedy film, “Don’t Look Up.” However, her co-star and fellow Oscar laureate, Leonardo DiCaprio, secured a higher paycheck of $30 million.
In an interview with Vanity Fair for the December 2020/January 2021 issue, Lawrence stated, “Leo earns more at the box office than I do.” She continued by expressing her gratitude and contentment with her current arrangement. However, she pointed out a common discomfort faced by women in the workforce: it’s awkward to ask for equal pay. If one were to question an apparent discrepancy, they are often told it’s not due to gender bias, but they can’t explain what else it might be.
Her optimistic outlook on things had been earned through struggle: The difference in pay between Lawrence and her male co-stars in the 2013 film American Hustle, which became public knowledge due to the Sony email hack in 2014, sparked a significant discussion about the wage disparity between genders within Hollywood.
Lawrence expressed gratitude for his job during an interview with Channel 4 News in 2017, stating, “My concern isn’t about money.” He further explained, “I wasn’t disheartened by receiving only this much money for a film. That’s preposterous. What upset me was the unjustness and disparity.
In simpler terms, Jonah Hill earned $60,000 (pre-tax and pre-commission) for his role in “The Wolf of Wall Street” in 2013, which is significantly less than the $10 million salary received by Leonardo DiCaprio, who played the lead role.
Hill recounted on “The Howard Stern Show” in 2014 that they were offered the smallest amount of money, but given the opportunity to star in a Martin Scorsese film, he was determined to secure the agreement before anyone had a chance to reconsider.
In my own words, I’d express it like this: “To work under Martin Scorsese, I’d be willing to sell my home and exhaust all my savings. It’s not about the financial gain; you can get that from films like ’22 Jump Street.’ Instead, it’s about passion projects – things you deeply care about. If given the chance, I’d do it all over again without a second thought. Money isn’t the measure here; it’s the love for what you’re doing that counts.
Oprah Winfrey happily accepted only a little bit of green to star in 1985’s The Color Purple.
The billionaire media mogul shared with Essence in 2023 that they were only given $35,000 for a role in a film, but it was the most valuable $35,000 they had ever made. They explained that the experience transformed their life and taught them countless lessons.
When Jennifer Lopez landed the part as the late Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla in the 1997 biopic “Selena,” she made history as the first Latin actress to secure a million-dollar paycheck for a movie.
In an interview with Variety back in 2019, Lopez looked back on her breakout film, stating that she was so young and didn’t fully understand the situation at hand. She added that receiving a million dollars from the producers seemed fantastic to her, as it felt like everyone was making a bold statement.
Her success opened up opportunities for her to earn even more, with some instances where she didn’t even have to invest anything initially.
Lopez shared in an interview with GQ in 2019 that he does things out of passion rather than for financial gain, such as taking on the role in ‘Hustlers’ without a substantial paycheck. He self-produced it and, much like the song ‘Jenny From the Block’, he invests in himself and pursues what he loves.
Adrien Brody didn’t accept the movie “The Brutalist” for financial gain. Instead, he portrayed a Hungarian architect struggling with his art in post-WWII America for a fee of $250,000 and went on to win his second Oscar for Best Actor.
In response to Variety, Brody mentioned that he urgently requires a movie studio production now since he’s invested all his efforts into the impressive-looking barn-castle restoration project he’s working on in upstate New York.
Pete Davidson jokingly remarked to New York magazine about his salary upon being asked during the build-up to Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary special, that when he first joined the show at age 20 in 2014, he was making around $3,000 per episode. He humorously added that with this income, he usually splurged on dinner.
It’s intriguing to note that the starting salaries for SNL newcomers have kept a consistent ratio over the years. For instance, stars like John Belushi, Jane Curtin, Gilda Radner, Dan Aykroyd, and Chevy Chase were reportedly paid $750 per episode in 1975, which is equivalent to approximately $3,300 in 2014 (as calculated by the Consumer Price Index Inflation calculator). If we consider this amount adjusted for inflation until 2025, it would be around $4,428.
In his current 22nd season on SNL, Kenan Thompson is earning significantly more than $3,000 per episode. However, just like any other actor, he began his career from humble beginnings on Nickelodeon.
In Demi Lovato’s 2024 documentary, Child Star, the former All That star recalled the first time they received payment for a commercial, which was $800 when they were only 12 years old. To them, that amount felt like a million dollars.
It turns out Gilmore Girls’ status as a beloved rewatchable classic is literally priceless.
Lauren Graham, who played Lorelai Gilmore for seven seasons and then reappeared in the role for 2016’s “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life,” shared during an interview on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” in March 2025 that there are no residuals on Netflix. However, she revealed that she has been compensated with love and affection instead.
During the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, Tommy Dorfman openly discussed her earnings from the series “13 Reasons Why,” as the strike was in part triggered by streaming platforms like Netflix not providing extra remuneration to actors and crew when their shows gained significant popularity.
In simpler terms, Dorfman stated on Threads on July 24 that her total earnings for the first season of “13 Reasons Why” were $29,953.24 before agency and manager fees (which amounted to 20%) and taxes. This was for eight episodes filmed over a six-month period. Additionally, she did all promotional work, had key artwork for the show, traveled round trip from NYC to SF for each episode, and was kept for extended periods without pay or insurance, barely qualifying for it.
During the initial 28 days following its launch, Season 1 of the show had amassed a grand total of 476 million view hours. Because of this impressive figure, we’ve decided to take action.
Dax Shepard, during an episode of his podcast, subtly shared with Lauren Graham that he was among the least paid actors on the set of their TV series “Parenthood,” which spanned over six seasons, without explicitly mentioning specific names or figures.
But, the Armchair Expert host stressed that he did not mind.
He mentioned that before becoming a parent, he always took the initiative to discover what his colleagues were earning in every job he held. “Either by having a discussion where they reveal it, or by discreetly finding out through an agent,” he explained.
He deliberately chose to avoid learning details about his lineage connected to his parental heritage, a decision that enhanced his enjoyment, as even when hints regarding his position within the company’s hierarchy became apparent, he could still savor the experience.
George Clooney shared with the Los Angeles Times in 2005 that he personally invested a dollar to ensure the production of his film “Good Night, and Good Luck.” To do this, he had to sign a check as the director and hand over his acting salary. Co-writer and co-producer Grant Heslov, along with Clooney, each earned a dollar for their involvement in the project.
The passionate tribute on CBS News journalist Edward R. Murrow, who stood up to authority in the 1950s, has proven enduring: Making his debut on Broadway, Clooney portrays Murrow in a stage version of the movie. Moreover, during its preview period before the official opening on April 3, the play garnered an astounding Broadway record (for a non-musical) of $3.3 million, suggesting that Clooney is raking in significantly more than $1.
Christian Bale, who played the chilling Patrick Bateman in the 2000 film American Psycho, revealed to GQ in 2022 that he was only paid the bare minimum allowed by law for the role because the production team wasn’t very keen on hiring him, apart from director Mary Harron. The Welsh actor himself disclosed this fact.
In simpler terms, Bale mentioned that his earnings were extremely modest compared to others. He recalled a moment when, sitting in the makeup trailer, the makeup artists laughed at him because he was earning less money than any of them.
Although his uncle might have been Rico, Jon Heder revealed in 2010 that he initially received just $1,000 for the movie “Napoleon Dynamite” at first.
Following the unexpected success of his irreverent comedy, he managed to renegotiate a share in the earnings. He shared this with the New Zealand Herald, saying, “They raised it slightly.
Djimon Hounsou expressed that he feels undervalued in the film industry, despite boasting a remarkable resume with films like “Amistad” and “Blood Diamond”.
The Beninese actor shared with CNN’s Larry Madowo in January 2025 that he has been involved in filmmaking for over two decades. Despite earning two Oscar nominations and featuring in numerous high-profile productions, he finds himself persistently grappling with financial difficulties to sustain his livelihood.
In my 2024 memoir, “Rebel Rising,” I spilled the beans about how I was only pocketing $3,500 for my role in the blockbuster hit, “Bridesmaids.” However, little did you know that this meager sum had to be funneled straight into the Screen Actors Guild to secure my union membership. In essence, I didn’t see a single penny of that paycheck!
Still, she wrote, the experience was “everything!”
The Australian actress saw her stardom climb significantly, as her pay for a movie like “Pitch Perfect” in 2012 started at the SAG minimum wage of $65,000 but escalated to $10 million by “Pitch Perfect 3” in 2017. According to Wilson’s account, she earned approximately $20 million from the third installment, “Isn’t It Romantic,” and “The Hustle,” though it’s important to note that nearly half of this went to taxes, 10% to her agents, and another 5% to her lawyer. After settling all expenses, including those for her publicist, business manager, and assistant, Wilson was left with what she deemed a substantial amount of money.
Towards the end of 2017, Ellen Pompeo successfully renegotiated her contract for Grey’s Anatomy, securing an impressive salary of approximately $575,000 per episode. Additionally, she received a substantial signing bonus worth seven figures and was granted two percent ownership in the show’s backend, potentially earning her between $6 million and $7 million more.
In 2018, Pompeo shared with The Hollywood Reporter that at age 48, she’s reached a point where she feels comfortable asking for what she rightfully deserves. She acknowledged that her long-standing role might make her seem less ‘relevant’ in the industry, but she pointed out that maintaining quality performance over 14 years is no small feat. In fact, she challenged the notion by saying that being good on a show after 14 years is truly a remarkable skill.
More recently, reflecting on her role as Grey compared to Patrick Dempsey’s earnings, Ellen Pompeo stated that she didn’t resent him for earning more money.
Back in March 2025, on an episode of Call Her Daddy, she shared a sentiment I deeply resonate with: “Given that the show bore my name, I felt I deserved equal treatment. It wasn’t jealousy over his success that got to me – it was the fact that they seemed to undervalue me compared to him, something that will never change.
Back in 1978 when Jamie Lee Curtis made her first film appearance in “Halloween”, she was earning $2,000 a week, amounting to a total of $8,000. As she put it in an interview with Rotten Tomatoes in 2018, “To be honest, nobody really got paid anything back then.
Although John Carpenter’s friend Nick Castle (who portrayed Michael Myers) only received $25 per day, the scream queen earned four figures. In reality, Anthony Moran was the one whose face you see briefly when the killer’s mask comes off, and Tommy Lee Wallace also appeared on screen as Michael Myers.
At that moment, it was quite a lot! As shared with Vanity Fair in 2018 by Castle, who studied film alongside Carpenter at USC, the appeal of participating in the movie wasn’t about monetary gain. Instead, it was an opportunity to learn the ropes of filmmaking and directing on set, which he didn’t anticipate getting paid for. However, the surprise was a modest $25 daily wage, and all he had to do was wear a rubber mask.
Taraji P. Henson received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress in 2008’s “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” but even years afterward, she remained passionate about the $150,000 she was paid to be part of the film – a sum that was agreed upon after producers turned down her initial request for $500,000.
In reference to the principal actors, myself (Brad Pitt) and Cate Blanchett, during that time, quotes worth $20 million were not common, but they were indeed being paid. This was shared in a 2021 episode of the Ladies First With Laura Brown podcast. I’m not suggesting they weren’t justified in earning their deserved compensation, Cate and I certainly were worth it.
As a devoted admirer, let me share my perspective: She boldly stated, “I wasn’t just contributing my talent, but also a significant sum to the ticket sales for this blockbuster film. I believed what I was asking for, given my career stage at the time, was justified. But when they initially offered $100,000, it left me heartbroken.” Yet, as fate would have it, the final offer climbed up to $150,000, a figure that I had to accept despite the dent it took on my pride.
Henson pointed out, “Often, people remark, ‘150,000 dollars is a substantial amount!’ However, I don’t want to be perceived as ungrateful because that’s not my character. But when you consider it, the government will take half, leaving $75,000. Before taxes, I need to pay my team 30%, which means Uncle Sam takes another 22.5k, then another 30% of the remaining 52.5k, so I’m left with around $40,000?”
Although Cate Blanchett has amassed significant wealth throughout her career, not all of it can be attributed to portraying the royal elf Galadriel in the The Lord of the Rings series, which took in a staggering $2.9 billion at the global box office.
In response to Andy Cohen’s guess on “Watch What Happens Live” in August 2024 that the Lord of the Rings trilogy was her biggest paycheck, she clarified, “That’s not true! I didn’t earn a penny for that movie. In fact, I received more free sandwiches and got to keep my elf ears as souvenirs.
In essence, they didn’t receive a substantial sum of money, as a matter of fact. In an interview on The Howard Stern Show in 2023, Orlando Bloom, who portrayed Legolas the elven warrior, revealed that he earned only $175,000 for the entire trilogy.
Hopefully he also got to keep his ears.
