Amy Schumer and Chris Fischer‘s marriage has reached the end of the line.
Actress Amy Schumer and her husband, chef Chris Fischer, have separated after seven years of marriage. They share a 6-year-old son named Gene.
Amy announced on Instagram on December 12th that she and Chris have decided to divorce. She emphasized that they still care deeply for each other and will prioritize co-parenting their son.
The 44-year-old confirmed the separation was friendly and filled with mutual love and respect, and quickly dismissed any rumors about the reasons behind it.
“Not becisse I dropped some lbs and thought I could bag s basket,” she quipped, “and not because he’s a hot Janlmes beard award winning chef who can still pull some hot tail.”
Amy added, “Family forever.”
She expressed similar feelings earlier in December, hinting that her relationship with Chris, 45, was struggling. She clarified then that any outcome of their relationship wasn’t related to her recent weight loss or his autism diagnosis.
The comedian posted on Instagram on December 1st, expressing hope that she and her husband would get through a difficult time, calling him ‘the best.’ She also explained that she wasn’t wearing her wedding ring simply because she doesn’t usually wear jewelry, and the post has since been deleted.
Amy also explained that her 50-pound weight loss wasn’t about appearances. She was diagnosed with Cushing Syndrome, a hormonal condition, in 2024, and lost weight as part of managing it.
She explained she acted that way to stay alive. She suffered from a serious illness that causes severe swelling and can be fatal.
Cushing syndrome happens when the body has too much cortisol, according to the National Library of Medicine. Amy explains she developed the condition after being treated with steroids, which are sometimes used for conditions like endometriosis.

Amy Schumer has been candid about her ongoing struggles with endometriosis, a painful autoimmune condition that can sometimes lead to infertility. She tried IVF in 2020 hoping to have another child, and later underwent surgery in 2021 to remove her uterus and appendix as a treatment for the condition.
Amy revealed in a 2022 podcast interview that she and Chris had difficulty conceiving a second child, but they are happy with their one child. She affectionately described their child as a ‘perfect little angel.’

Becoming a mother is the most wonderful thing in the world, but it also brings a constant worry and feeling of helplessness that never really goes away,” the celebrity shared on Instagram in February 2022. “It’s like your heart is always exposed, and you’re past the point where you can cope with those feelings the way you used to. As a lifestyle expert, I always appreciate honesty, and Amy Schumer really delivered with a Mother’s Day post back in 2019! She shared a very real moment – the less glamorous side of postpartum recovery, like struggling to go to the bathroom – right alongside the sweet photos of her new baby. It was so refreshing! Moms everywhere, including celebrities like Jenna Fischer and Snooki, applauded her for keeping it so authentic and showing what motherhood really looks like.

Amy Schumer shared a post reflecting on her experience after giving birth. She wrote about how amazing women are, calling them ‘warriors’ who are capable of anything. While acknowledging men are great, she emphasized the incredible strength of women and expressed gratitude for having a doula during her pregnancy and childbirth.
She shared that despite a difficult pregnancy marked by severe nausea and vomiting – what she called hyperemesis – she tried to stay active with Pilates and walks. She was incredibly grateful for the support of her friends, some of whom she’d known for 30 years, who encouraged her throughout. She emphasized the incredible strength and willingness to help she found in other women, and how right they were about feeling better immediately after giving birth. She specifically thanked her family members Chris, Gene, and Tatiana, and playfully referenced the challenges of postpartum recovery.

“New kid, who dis?” Schumer wrote.

Amy Schumer and her husband, Chris Fischer, welcomed their first child, a son named Gene Attell Fischer, on May 5, 2019. She shared a sweet photo of the new family shortly after his birth.
