It’s become common for TV shows and movies to move between streaming services. Now, Warner Bros. is bringing some of its popular animated series to Tubi starting March 1st, and Netflix is also joining the trend. Even while considering a major merger with Warner Bros., Netflix is already adding an animated series from HBO to its platform.
Starting March 17th, Netflix will be adding The Ricky Gervais Show to its selection. The show originally ran for three seasons on HBO, totaling 39 episodes, and is a significant addition to Netflix given Ricky Gervais’ continued popularity. Previously, it was hard to find the series in the US and other Western countries, as it wasn’t available on HBO Max. For those unfamiliar, The Ricky Gervais Show began as animated segments created from conversations between Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, and Karl Pilkington, originally featured on their podcast back in 2010.

Ricky Gervais’ Hollywood History

Ricky Gervais is a well-known and often debated figure in comedy and television. He’s created some hugely popular shows, most famously The Office, which originally aired in the UK in 2001 and later became a hit in the US. He’s also been behind other successful series like Extras and Life’s Too Short, both of which gained dedicated fans when they premiered in the 2000s.
As we discussed before, Netflix is interested in acquiring Warner Bros Discovery, potentially bringing a huge collection of Warner Bros movies and shows to the platform. However, Paramount is also trying to buy Warner Bros, so a deal with Netflix isn’t guaranteed. Currently, both Paramount and Netflix are still negotiating, and the final result will likely have a significant and lasting impact on the entertainment industry.
It’s a smart move for Netflix to add The Ricky Gervais Show. Not only is Gervais popular, but other streaming services have proven that classic content draws viewers. A prime example is Tubi, which has seen a big boost in popularity thanks to adding Looney Tunes cartoons – they’ve repeatedly highlighted Bugs Bunny and friends as a major success for their platform.
