While Anakin Skywalker was long believed to be the Chosen One in the Star Wars story, recent developments suggest he was involved in something even bigger. Official sources now indicate Anakin was connected to two ancient prophecies, not just the one previously known.
Anakin Skywalker was an exceptionally powerful being, unlike anything the galaxy had seen before – a natural anomaly in the Force. Because of his immense power, it’s not surprising he was seen as more than just the Jedi’s prophesied Chosen One. Some believe he was equally a Chosen One for the dark side, a figure known as the Sith’ari.
Anakin Skywalker Was The Jedi’s Prophesied Chosen One
Jedi prophecies foretold that Anakin Skywalker would restore balance to the Force by defeating the Sith. This came to pass in Return of the Jedi, where Anakin rebelled against Emperor Palpatine and gave his life to save his son, Luke.
When Anakin Skywalker killed Emperor Palpatine, he effectively ended the ancient Sith tradition known as the Rule of Two, bringing an end to the Sith’s long history of galactic corruption. Although the Jedi Order had fallen, Anakin’s ultimate sacrifice restored balance to the Force, fulfilling a prophecy – albeit in a way the Jedi never anticipated.
Was Anakin Caught Between Two Star Wars Prophesies? The Sith’ari Explained
In Star Wars Legends, the Sith had a prophecy about a special individual known as the Sith’ari. This person was believed to be destined to both destroy and rebuild the Sith Order, making it more powerful. Many Sith Lords, full of pride, thought they were the one foretold in the prophecy. However, the story generally points to Darth Bane as the true Sith’ari.
“The Sith’ari will be free of limits.
The Sith’ari will lead the Sith and destroy them.
The Sith’ari will raise the Sith from death and make them stronger than before.”
In Chris Kempshall’s 2024 novel, The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire, the ancient Sith’ari prophecy was brought back into official Star Wars lore. The book also reveals that Palpatine thought Anakin Skywalker was the Chosen One, but destined for the dark side. According to a historian within the story, both the Jedi and the Sith believed Skywalker was their Chosen One.
Palpatine was resurrected as a pure manifestation of the dark side after Anakin defeated him. This fulfilled a prophecy, but in an unexpected way – Luke Skywalker found himself caught between prophecies related to both the light and dark sides of the Force.
The Jedi believed Anakin Skywalker was destined to defeat the Sith, but the Sith thought he held the power to revive them and make them more powerful than ever.
Anakin Skywalker’s importance is highlighted by his connection to multiple prophecies. His near-takeover of the Mortis god, The Father, during The Clone Wars also makes sense when you consider he would have been responsible for balancing the forces of good and evil – represented by The Son and Daughter – within the Force.
It’ll be really exciting to see how Anakin Skywalker’s legacy plays a role when he appears in the second season of Ahsoka.
