Andrew Garfield Addresses Marvel Return Following Spider-Man: Brand New Day Trailer Rumors

Andrew Garfield continues to be the subject of fan theories about his potential return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and he’s now responding to the newest round of speculation.

In a recent interview with Capital FM, the trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day came up, specifically a shot that’s been widely discussed online. People are speculating that characters were removed from the scene, which shows Spider-Man fighting what appears to be the Hand. This reminds some fans of how footage was altered in trailers for Spider-Man: No Way Home back in 2021. The actor responded, saying, “Honestly, that seems like a stretch. What do you mean there’s room for other characters? There’s just empty space under Spider-Man.”

Garfield playfully responded to the rumors about his involvement in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, calling the fan theories and investigative reporting “absolutely ludicrous.” He joked that people were going overboard trying to figure out if he was in the movie, saying, “Yeah, everyone’s focusing on Spider-Man, but there’s always room for more characters!” He laughed, suggesting the speculation was getting out of hand.

The experienced actor playfully hinted at his potential involvement in a future Spider-Man movie, noting, “You might have noticed I didn’t actually say I wasn’t in it, did I? [laughter] Or am I giving everyone false hope?” In another interview with Heart radio, he joked that he expects to be constantly asked about appearing in Spider-Man films for the rest of his life. He imagined being asked even when he’s very old and frail, but added with good humor that he’s happy to entertain the question and feels grateful for his life.

Does Spider-Man: Brand New Day Have Other Secret Characters?

It’s unlikely Andrew Garfield will appear in the next phase of Marvel movies, but the idea that the trailer cleverly removed other actors using special effects isn’t surprising. Sony and Marvel have been very secretive about the new Spider-Man: Brand New Day story, which means unexpected characters could still appear in the film.

While we’ve seen Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner in the trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Hulk himself hasn’t appeared in any of the promotional material. It’s possible Hulk was intentionally removed from one particular shot. The studios likely want to surprise audiences with the moment when Hulk and Spider-Man fight together, so they’re keeping it a secret.

Even though Charlie Cox has said he wasn’t involved in the Spider-Man: Brand New Day project, his Daredevil is still a likely candidate who may have been intentionally left out of the first movie trailer. The trailer suggests the film takes place after season two of Daredevil: Born Again, which would allow Daredevil’s appearance to be a surprise for audiences this summer.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to open in theaters on July 31.
