The initial trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day is finally here, giving fans a first look at the movie. One particular shot sparked a lot of conversation online. Near the end, Spider-Man jumps into battle against a group of villains who seem to be from The Hand. Fans noticed the shot looks like it was edited, with some characters possibly removed digitally – a tactic Sony used in the marketing for Spider-Man: No Way Home to keep the appearances of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield a secret. Many believe surprise heroes are fighting alongside Peter Parker, and now Andrew Garfield has commented on the speculation.
During a recent interview on Capital FM, Andrew Garfield discussed a scene from the Brand New Day trailer. He admitted he felt the scene felt forced, questioning the idea that there was room for additional characters when there was already so little space. When someone pointed out characters in the Hand seemed to be looking off-screen, Garfield jokingly responded that they were all still focused on Spider-Man, and that there’s always room for more characters in any shot of the film.
Garfield finished the discussion with a playful reference to his repeated claims that he wasn’t in No Way Home. He pointed out, with a laugh, that he never actually said he wasn’t, then jokingly wondered if that made him a ‘traitor’.
Will Andrew Garfield Return In Spider-Man: Brand New Day?

Following the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans are wary of believing Andrew Garfield when he talks about future Marvel projects. With the Multiverse Saga still unfolding, there’s always a possibility of characters from alternate realities appearing, but don’t count on Garfield returning just yet. The multiverse was a natural fit for No Way Home‘s story, allowing for the inclusion of older Spider-Man characters. However, the upcoming Brand New Day storyline seems to be aiming for a more personal and realistic narrative for Peter Parker. While there are hints of strange mutations affecting Peter’s DNA, the multiverse doesn’t seem to be a factor in this story – at least not right now.
While it would be great to see Garfield and Tom Holland share the screen again, it’s probably best if Garfield isn’t in the next Spider-Man movie. No Way Home was a unique success, and trying to recreate that magic could feel like unnecessary fan service, which Marvel is trying to avoid. Plus, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is ready for a film where he simply focuses on being a local hero protecting New York City. This new direction is creatively exciting for his version of the character, and Garfield’s appearance might distract from that goal.
Just because Sony isn’t revealing everything doesn’t mean there aren’t other characters hidden in that Spider-Man fight scene. Spider-Man could be joining forces with a New York-based hero like Daredevil, or even someone like the Hulk or the mysterious character Sadie Sink is playing. The studio is likely keeping secrets to build excitement, just like they did successfully with the promotion for No Way Home. While Andrew Garfield thinks the fan theories are a bit far-fetched, it’s easy to imagine that same image becoming a dramatic reveal with multiple heroes when the movie actually comes out.
Even though Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man wasn’t in the recent films, he might still appear in future Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies. The upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars are expected to bring together heroes from different Marvel adaptations and eras to fight Doctor Doom. While no Spider-Man actor is confirmed for Doomsday, it’s likely Secret Wars will feature one. This could give Garfield another chance to appear before the MCU simplifies its storyline and continuity.
