Andy Richter is dancing away from his haters.
Following his removal from Dancing With the Stars on November 11th, the comedian said that the support he received from his fellow cast members far outweighed the negativity he encountered online.
Andy shared on the November 12th episode of the Dancing With the Stars podcast that the skilled professional dancers on the show helped him feel confident and worthy of being there. He explained that they reassured him so consistently, he started to genuinely believe it.
He explained that any negativity from those upset by his continued presence didn’t matter, because the support from the experienced professionals there made him feel valued and appreciated.
At 59, Andy was the oldest contestant on the show, but he managed to last longer than several other celebrities, including Danielle Fishel, Scott Hoying, and Lauren Jauregui, before becoming the eighth person eliminated.
Despite some fan disappointment with him remaining on the show, the professional dancers reassured him he deserved to stay and that he was helping the show succeed.
Andy clarified that the support he received didn’t feel like pity. Instead, he felt like a valued part of the team responsible for the show’s incredible success and record-breaking viewership. They made him feel like an essential contributor, not someone being helped out of charity.
That positive feedback meant a lot to him. He told the winner of season 33 that he was incredibly grateful for all the wonderful people involved in the show.
Even though he was eliminated during the episode celebrating the show’s 20th birthday, he said he still felt like he’d won.
He told Alfonso Ribeiro that the show had completely changed his life, and he was a different person because of it and the woman standing with him, Emma. He emphasized that none of his positive transformation would have been possible without her.
