SPOILERS for Hazbin Hotel season 2 episodes 1 and 2 are ahead!
Angel Dust is a standout character in Hazbin Hotel, and he’s grown a lot since the first season. While fans love all the characters, Angel Dust is particularly popular and has a huge following.
It’s no surprise Angel is such a fan favorite. He’s hilarious, genuinely cares for his friends, and his story feels very real. Unlike many characters in the show, he isn’t a powerful demon or related to Lucifer – he’s simply someone trying to escape a difficult and harmful situation. Season 1 of Hazbin Hotel reveals that there’s a lot more to Angel Dust than meets the eye.
Fortunately, Angel Dust has developed as a character between the first and second seasons. Because of this, he feels like the same Angel Dust we enjoyed in season one, but with some subtle differences when season two begins.
Angel Dust Has Become More Confident Since Confronting Valentino In Hazbin Hotel S1
After standing up to Valentino in episode 6 of Hazbin Hotel season 1, “Welcome to Heaven,” Angel Dust appears to have become more self-assured. He firmly established to Valentino that he isn’t under his control outside of work, and he’s consistently upheld that boundary since then.
He continues to work and interact with Valentino when necessary, but now lives at the Hazbin Hotel and appears more self-assured. His posture, gait, and speech all suggest a newfound confidence.
He’s also stopped allowing others to exploit him, with the exception of Valentino. The first season of Hazbin Hotel shows him willingly being taken advantage of – for example, at the bar, he knowingly lets people drug him. This behavior appears to be rooted in his poor self-esteem, which is highlighted during his conversation with Husk before the episode “Loser Baby.”
During the song “Hazbin Guarantee (Trust Us)” in the new season of Hazbin Hotel, he physically pushes someone away after they touch his chest without his permission. This moment suggests he’s beginning to recognize his own value and demand respect.
Angel Dust Is Getting Into Talking About His Emotions In Therapy
In the first episodes of Hazbin Hotel season 2, Angel happily shares that he’s now finding therapy helpful. This is a big shift from season 1, where he was very resistant to talking about his feelings and didn’t want to participate in therapy, even when Sir Pentious tried role-playing.
It’s really heartwarming to see how much Angel has developed as a person. Despite being taken advantage of and mistreated, he’s now more open to trusting others and showing his vulnerable side at the hotel, and that’s a beautiful thing.
The character seems to be genuinely considering changing for the better, possibly even seeking redemption. Could he be the next one to turn over a new leaf, following Sir Pentious? We’ll have to watch season 2 of Hazbin Hotel to find out, but he’s definitely showing signs of moving in that direction.
