Angelina Jolie gets the best fashion advice from her kids.
As a devoted follower, I’d share that in the Jolie household, much like Angelina Jolie, who is known for her role as Mrs. Smith and shares children Maddox, Zahara, Shiloh, Pax, Knox, and Vivienne with ex-husband Brad Pitt, there exists a fundamental fashion principle she adheres to:
“In our family, I strive to teach the kids that it’s not about following trends or wearing high-end labels; instead, it’s about expressing themselves authentically through their clothing and using fashion as a means to celebrate individuality and uniqueness.
Angelina shared with Francesca Amiker from TopMob News during the premiere of her latest movie, Couture, at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival that her house is quite democratic. She emphasized that everyone has the freedom to express themselves and do their own thing.
So as long as you’re true to yourself, there’s no issue,” she emphasized. “However, if you’re attempting to imitate someone else or win favor with others by changing your appearance, we might address it. But rest assured, just be your authentic self!
In her own life, she aspires for genuine experiences, yet the character portrayed by the 50-year-old in Alice Winocour’s fashion drama (co-starring Ella Rumpf, Louis Garrel, and Garance Marillier) tends to adhere more closely to fundamental aspects.
During the entire movie, her character consistently dons a large, black coat, as stated by Angelina. The character is an American director making a debut in Paris during Fashion Week, and she embarks on a personal exploration. Unlike everyone else, it seems she stands out from the crowd in terms of fashion.
She noted that her character often existed in a distinct realm, blending elements of horror films, directing, and even brushing up against the line of life and death.
However, although the actress playing Maleficent might have differing views when it comes to fashion compared to her character, she was able to find several points of connection nonetheless.
She mentioned that this movie carries a unique softness and a strong bond with women, which sets it apart from her previous work. She explained that this film is particularly female-focused, although there are also excellent male characters, and it brings together women from various corners of the globe.
Despite our varying backgrounds and unique paths, there’s a surprising amount of common ground between us,” she explained.
Angelina Jolie’s recent work was initiated not long after she went back to Hollywood, following a multi-year break that allowed her to recover emotionally from her challenging divorce.
She shared with Vanity Fair last December that for reasons she prefers to keep private, she found herself in a very gloomy state, lacking much brightness and vitality. Essentially, she was saying, “Your spirit seems dull.
However, following her remarkable comeback on the big screen in director Pablo Larraín’s film titled “Maria”, where her children, Maddox and Pax, took on roles as production assistants, she has been able to embark on a fresh phase of life, enriched by the companionship of her family.
Angelina shared with The Hollywood Reporter last August that her children are growing up and becoming more independent. This means she has more freedom to take breaks, and they’re now old enough to accompany her at work. She expressed enthusiasm about this new phase in their lives, as her kids are blossoming into their individuality more and more each day.

After developing a fondness for Cambodia during filming of the 2001 movie Tomb Raider, Angelina Jolie sought out to visit an orphanage in Battambang with the intention of adopting her first child there.
She didn’t sense a bond with any of them, she admitted to Vanity Fair later, until she laid eyes on Maddox – born August 5, 2001 – suspended from the ceiling in a box. In that moment, she felt an immediate connection, causing her to cry profusely.
Initially, when she was 26 and a single mom, she legally became her oldest son’s parent. However, upon starting a relationship with Brad Pitt, he chose to initiate the adoption process too.
Due to a fascination with his mother’s profession, when Angelina took up directing the 2017 film “First They Killed My Father“, which was an adaptation of her friend Loung Ung’s book about the Cambodian genocide during the Khmer Rouge regime, Maddox chose to join as executive producer. According to him, he took on this role to assist wherever possible, as he shared with People. Regarding his supervisor, aka mom, he described her as “fun, amusing, and a joy to work with”, adding that she’s simply “a wonder”.
Maddox, whose mother was overjoyed with his decision to study biochemistry at Yonsei University in South Korea, found himself invited to a White House state dinner in April 2023. During this event, President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden welcomed South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and his wife, Kim Keon Hee.
In 2007, Angelina described that from November 29, 2003, Pax lived for nearly four years in a single location, within a solitary room, and on a small iron bed shared with twenty other children. During this time, he had no autonomy over his life, lacking personal freedom.
[Or, more concisely:]
Angelina recounted in 2007 that Pax spent close to four years between 2003 and 2007 confined to a single room, on a shared iron bed with twenty other kids, without having the freedom to make decisions for himself.
[Or even more concisely:]
In 2007, Angelina shared that Pax lived for nearly four years (from Nov. 29, 2003) in one place, in a single room, on an iron bed with 20 others, without personal freedom.
In a surprising turn of events, Maddox now finds himself in a liberated environment surrounded by not only new brothers and sisters but also a mother and father, as stated by Angelina. He’s currently learning English, showing affectionate behavior, and exhibiting a wild, free spirit due to his newfound freedom. However, despite his mischievous nature, he proves to be a strong-willed and remarkable little individual.
In his eagerness for the family enterprise, Pax lent his voice to character Yoo in Angelina’s 2016 animated film, “Kung Fu Panda 3.” Prior to that, he worked as a set photographer on “First They Killed My Father.” Later, he graced the red carpet of the 2018 Golden Globes alongside his mother.
Apart from that, he was instrumental in beautifying Atelier Jolie, a creative fashion hub and alteration business that Angelina launched in New York City. Additionally, he served in the assistant director division during the Italian production of her forthcoming movie titled “Without Blood”.
In an interview with People, Angelina described her experience collaborating with both Pax and Maddox as follows: “It’s as if a film set at its peak becomes like one big loving family, and that’s how working with them felt incredibly organic.
At the age of three, Maddox joined Angelina at an orphanage in Hawassa, Ethiopia, where they met their eldest daughter Zahara. Born on January 8, 2005, Zahara. As Angelina shared with Anderson Cooper later, “Mad adores her.” Upon Zahara’s arrival home, she was seven months old, making it feel to Maddox as if he had a tiny, cuddly new companion that he could closely observe.
Just like her siblings, Zahara has shown a keen interest in various aspects of her mother’s career. She has accompanied her mother on high-profile events such as red carpet premieres. Furthermore, she collaborated with jeweler Robert Procop to launch her charitable Zahara Collection jewelry line in 2019. Additionally, she has taken part in humanitarian missions, joining her mother’s work with the UNHCR by visiting Syrian refugee camps.
In August 2022, Angelina felt emotional as she sent Zahara to Atlanta’s Spelman College (she said in an Instagram post, “I haven’t cried yet, but I hope I can keep it together”). Later, she went back for the Homecoming celebrations of this Historically Black College and University (HBCU).
Zahara, who became a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority at school in 2023, has also traveled on multiple trips with an actress to Washington D.C. She stood beside Angelina during her emotional speech supporting the renewal of the Violence Against Women Act in February 2022 and later when they met with legislators to advocate for the enactment of the Justice for All Reauthorization Act of 2022.
Approximately several months following the announcement of their pregnancy, Angelina and Brad brought Shiloh into the world at Cottage Hospital in Swakopmund, Namibia on May 27, 2006. In an interview with MSN, Angelina described Shiloh as “a beacon of light and love, a sweet little thing, and incredibly humorous.” She added, “I see some of myself in her-she’s going to cause quite a stir!
At the premiere of “Unbroken” in 2014, Shiloh made her first appearance on the red carpet. Over the years, she continued to attend events for movies like “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil”, “The Breadwinner”, and “Dumbo”. She was also present at the 2018 National Board of Review Awards Gala and the 2021 red carpet event for “Eternals”. On that latter occasion, she wore her mother’s Dior gown.
Angelina expressed, ‘Oh my goodness, go ahead and wear it even better than me! That’s the kind of mother I am,’ she told Daily Pop on TopMob, when discussing letting her kids borrow clothes from her closet.
Apart from demonstrating an interest in Angelina’s philanthropic work, it appears that Shiloh has ventured into the world of entertainment, often visiting the Millennium Dance Complex in Los Angeles.
On her 18th birthday in 2024, Shiloh decided to petition a court in Los Angeles to drop the hyphenated “Pitt” from her surname, choosing instead to be known as Shiloh Nouvel Jolie. A source close to the situation confirmed to TopMob News that Shiloh had retained her own legal representation and covered the costs personally.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase that as follows: Back in 2008 at the Independent Spirit Awards, Angelina Jolie proudly showcased her growing family with the debut of her baby bump. Later that year, on July 12th, she welcomed two new additions to her brood – Knox and his sister Vivienne, born in the beautiful city of Nice, France. The couple then nestled into their Château Miraval, where Angelina shared with People magazine that while it’s a chaotic whirlwind, they’re thriving amidst the mayhem. She delightfully added that Shiloh and Zahara were taking on the roles of stylist and caregiver for the twins, choosing their clothes and helping to change and hold them.
Mentioning the name, Hal Knox Hillhouse – Brad’s grandfather – Angelina remarked that “Knox shares similarities with Brad, both emotionally and physically.” Indeed, at the 2015 British motorcycle Grand Prix, it was apparent that the two resembled each other quite strongly.
In 2016, just like their older siblings Pax, Zahara, and Shiloh, Knox also made a small appearance in the movie “Kung Fu Panda 3”, providing the voice for the character Ku Ku. As Angelina Jolie explained to ET, they were initially quite shy and didn’t show much interest in acting. However, she didn’t want them to miss out on the opportunity. They eventually joined in and had a great time with the experience.
In simpler terms, Angelina mentioned to TopMob News that her younger fraternal twin resembles her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, as she prioritizes supporting others in the creative field instead of seeking the spotlight. She added that her sister is thoughtful and dedicated towards theater, working diligently to find ways to contribute effectively.
Despite delivering an impressive performance as a younger Aurora, opposite Elle Fanning in the 2014 movie Maleficent (Angelina Jolie commented that she was shocked by her excellent portrayal), this high school student has since shifted her focus to behind-the-scenes roles.
Angelina revealed that Vivienne motivated her to aid in bringing Francis Ford Coppola’s 1983 film “The Outsiders” to Broadway. As a result, Angelina took on the role of a volunteer assistant for her producer mother, who went on to win a Tony award.
In simpler terms, Angelina shared with People magazine that Vivienne (Vivienne Jolie, as credited in the playbill) would correct her. Angelina explained, “She’ll remind me, ‘Haven’t you seen the memo? We need to follow these steps, we have specific instructions to adhere to.’ Vivienne has been quite diligent and takes her role very seriously.
