Anime fans are discussing the most disappointing shows of 2025, and while many of them were expected to be lackluster, one major title is particularly frustrating because it had so much promise. 2025 was a fantastic year for anime overall, with hits like Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle and Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc reaching new levels of popularity. The return of popular series such as My Hero Academia and The Apothecary Diaries also made it a great year, but not every show lived up to expectations, resulting in a few letdowns.
Anime News Network recently shared a list on X (formerly Twitter) of what they considered the most disappointing anime of the year, and asked fans to weigh in. Their picks included titles like Lazarus, Go! Go! Loser Ranger! Season 2, Baban Baban Ban Vampire, Uglymug Epicfighter, Beheneko, Yandere Dark Elf, Ubel Blatt, Momentary Lily, and The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 4. Many of these shows weren’t very popular or well-received. Even the more recognizable titles, Lazarus and The Rising of the Shield Hero, received mixed reactions from viewers.
What was the Worst Anime of the Year 2025?

Rounding out the list is arguably the most disappointing anime: One-Punch Man Season 3. While many anticipated its decline, it’s still disheartening to see how much the series has suffered, especially considering the initial hype around the manga and the first season.
One-Punch Man Never Should Have Landed Among 2025’s Worst Anime

After a six-year break, One-Punch Man returned for a third season in 2025. The long wait already slowed the anime’s progress, and the second season had seen a drop in quality. While the story stayed true to the original manga, the animation wasn’t as good as the first season. This was partly because the series switched animation studios, moving from Madhouse to J.C. Staff. However, many viewers criticized how J.C. Staff adapted the material, and unfortunately, the third season didn’t offer much improvement.
Honestly, seeing the latest season of One-Punch Man felt like a real letdown, especially after waiting so long – and we still have another part to go, not arriving until 2027! It wasn’t surprising to see it named one of the worst shows of the year by Anime News Network, and a lot of fans seemed to agree. It’s a shame, because after the first season, this series had the potential to be huge, right up there with popular shows like My Hero Academia, Demon Slayer, and Jujutsu Kaisen. It had a great story and plenty of initial excitement, and if it had been handled better, I really think it could have been a massive success instead of ending up on that ‘worst of’ list.
