Prior to her passing, Anne Burrell had planned to host a charity event in Syracuse, New York; however, due to her unfortunate demise, the gathering is now intended as a memorial tribute to her instead.
On Wednesday, the 25th of June, it was announced that local news personality Anne, along with her sister Jane Burrell and their mother Marlene Burrell, would be co-hosting the annual charity food event for public radio station WCNY, known as “Taste of Fame.” The event, titled “The Burrells of Central New York,” was set to take place in October. (Anne being a native of Cazenovia, New York.)
Given Anne’s passing, Taste of Fame has decided to incorporate a tribute in their upcoming fundraising event in her honor.
WCNY’s leadership expressed profound sorrow upon the demise of Chef Anne Burrell. Mitch Gelman, our president and CEO, made this statement to Syracuse.com on Wednesday: ‘Chef Anne was more than just a colleague; she was a cherished friend, reliable partner, and culinary legend whose kindness, skill, and lively personality touched everyone who crossed paths with her.’
In keeping with Anne’s exceptional impact on the gastronomic scene, I am thrilled to announce that this year’s Taste of Fame event will feature a heartfelt tribute honoring her enduring legacy.
WCNY is assisting Anne’s family during their time of grief, and will collaborate closely with her family, friends, and colleagues in the culinary world to design a touching and significant tribute as part of the upcoming program. Gelman emphasized this in his statement, mentioning that they aim to involve Anne’s peers from the culinary community in these efforts.
On June 17, the Food Network celebrity, famed for her role as a coach on Worst Cooks in America, tragically passed away at her residence in Brooklyn. She was 55 years old.
According to a statement made to Us Weekly, Anne was adored as a wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend. Her smile made every place she went feel brighter. Anne’s positivity reached far beyond the people she knew, impacting millions worldwide. Although she is gone, her warmth, vivaciousness, and endless love continue to endure eternally.
Later, we were informed by someone from the NYPD that the famous chef was declared deceased “on the spot” following an emergency response to a 911 call. Upon arrival, authorities found a woman who was both unconscious and unresponsive.
On Friday, June 20th, The New York Times shared that the New York City Police Department is examining if Anne’s death might have been due to an accidental drug overdose, as tributes for her kept coming in.
As reported by the outlet, they found Anne in an unconscious, unresponsive state, surrounded by about 100 various pills, while she was in the shower – though the exact cause of her death is yet to be officially confirmed.
Apart from her mother and sister, Anne is also mourned by her newlywed husband, Stuart Claxton, whom she tied the knot with in October 2021, as well as Stuart’s son, Javier.
