Remember Star Wars Eclipse, the story-driven game that was announced a while back? Recent reports suggest it’s still a long way from being finished.
According to multiple anonymous sources speaking to Insider Gaming, the game is taking much longer to develop than expected, and its release isn’t guaranteed.
Progress on the project has been quite slow, with the development team reportedly making minimal headway over several months.
According to a source, the game is still several years away from being finished.
So, I heard they were thinking about growing the team, but NetEase, the company that owns the studio, wasn’t willing to spend the money on hiring more people back then. It was a bit of a bummer, honestly.
Both NetEase and Quantic Dream are counting on Spellcasters Chronicles to be a success. This free-to-play, team-based multiplayer game is currently available in Early Access on PC, and they hope the revenue it generates will help finance the development of their upcoming game, Star Wars Eclipse.
According to a source, the future of the project now depends more on whether it makes money than on its creative strengths. If Spellcasters doesn’t perform well commercially, NetEase is likely to reconsider its support for the studio and may stop funding it.
Although Steam’s player count isn’t a perfect measure of a game’s success, it gives a good idea of how popular it is. Right now, Spellcasters Chronicles has 45 players online.
Star Wars Eclipse is a new game in development by Quantic Dream, the French studio known for creating Detroit: Become Human and Heavy Rain.
The game was first announced in December 2021, but there haven’t been many official updates since then. Journalist Jason Schreier reported that, at the time of the announcement, the game was essentially nonexistent – there was very little developed.
Last October, Quantic Dream announced that development on the game is still underway and promised to reveal more details soon.
