It feels like major action manga series are ending all the time these days. Some are canceled because they weren’t popular enough, while others finish their stories as planned. One newer manga, which started in 2024, has been compared to both Tokyo Revengers and Jujutsu Kaisen. Now, with only one chapter left, the author has talked about how the story will end and whether there might be more stories set in this world later on. The question is, is this series wrapping up because it reached a natural conclusion, or because it didn’t find enough readers?
The manga series Night Light Hounds began in 2024 and follows Jimmy, a character caught up in the criminal underworld of Silent Bay City. Unlike other popular anime about gangsters, this series features supernatural elements like werewolves and vampires. Creator Haruhisa Nakata has announced that the manga will conclude with its 30th chapter later this month. While Nakata hasn’t explained the reason for the ending, he hopes to revisit the world of Night Light Hounds sometime in the future.
Haruhisa Nakata Talks Night Light Hounds’ End
Manga artist Nakata recently shared on social media about the upcoming end of his series. He hopes to continue the story in the future, possibly funding additional chapters himself, as there are still many ideas he wants to explore. With only two episodes remaining, including the current one, he expressed gratitude for fans’ support. Before this series, Nakata created the manga Levius and also worked on anime projects like Fairy gone and Lupin III Vs. Cat’s Eye.
Despite running for about two years, the supernatural series Night Light Hounds hasn’t been adapted into an anime yet. However, that doesn’t mean it won’t happen. The story has enough material for either a single season or a full-length movie. If it were animated, it would be fascinating to see if that could revive interest in the series.
Even though anime is incredibly popular right now, manga series aren’t guaranteed to succeed. Many stories are published each week in magazines like Weekly Shonen Jump and Shonen Jump+, and unfortunately, not all of them find an audience. So, lasting for more than a year is a significant accomplishment.
