DON’T NOD, the creator and publisher of the game, just released a new trailer for their upcoming adventure game, Aphelion. The trailer shows that players will be able to control both Ariane and astronaut Thomas Cross. It also gives a first look at how the game plays and the kinds of enemies players will face.
The new trailer, titled “Hide to Survive,” showcases the character of Thomas Cross and how he handles the emergencies faced by the crew of the Hope-01 shuttle. It also reveals that a major focus of the Aphelion story will be Ariane and Thomas’s efforts to reunite after the Hope-01 crashes on the planet Persephone, separating them.
In Aphelion, DON’T NOD offers a fresh take on the classic “lost on another planet” story by letting players experience the journey from the viewpoints of two characters searching for each other. The trailer reveals their quest is fraught with danger, as Ariane and Thomas must survive harsh landscapes and evade a mysterious alien creature called The Nemesis.
It appears Aphelion will combine exploration and stealth with platforming challenges. Players will control two characters who must climb cliffs and race across a dangerously cracking frozen lake. The trailer ends with a dramatic confrontation between Ariane and The Nemesis.
DON’T NOD explains that Ariane and Thomas will play very differently. Ariane’s gameplay will focus on physical actions and how she moves through the game’s world. Thomas, who starts the story injured, will rely more on solving puzzles and using his detective skills.
The game will include a tribute to the European Space Agency with a unique patch. This patch, designed by the game’s art director, Arnaud Barbier, and ESA together, will be worn by the characters Ariane and Thomas. It represents the Hope-01 mission, which is focused on studying the planet Persephone.
We first saw Aphelion in June at the Xbox Games Showcase 2025 with a trailer. Back then, Ariane was the only confirmed character. The developers at DON’T NOD also shared that the game’s story centers around the discovery of a new planet, Persephone, and the Hope-01 mission sent to explore it – a mission that doesn’t go as planned.
Aphelion is planned for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S in 2026. Players on PC and Xbox Series X/S will have access to the game on launch day through Xbox Game Pass.
