Apple TV+ might not be the most popular streaming service, but it’s become a reliable source for quality science fiction. Starting with the hit series For All Mankind in 2019, Apple TV+ has consistently added excellent sci-fi shows, including Foundation, Invasion, Silo, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Dark Matter, and the Emmy Award-winning Severance. While it doesn’t release as much content as some other platforms like Netflix, viewers know that shows on Apple TV+ are generally very well-made, and they’ve recently announced another exciting new series.
Apple TV has released the first full trailer for Pluribus, a new science fiction series created by Vince Gilligan, the mind behind Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Fans of Better Call Saul will be happy to see Rhea Seehorn starring as the lead. While earlier teasers and the new trailer are light on details about the plot, they’ve definitely sparked a lot of interest.
Vince Gilligan’s Pluribus Is Apple TV’s Next Big Sci-fi Series
Apple TV+’s new show, Pluribus, is set to launch on Friday, November 7th with two episodes. The show is described as a unique and unusual story about the unhappiest person on Earth being tasked with saving the world from… well, happiness. The trailer definitely suggests that’s the premise! Show creator Gilligan has shared some details about the plot in interviews, clarifying things that aren’t explained in the promotional materials.
Entertainment Weekly spoke with the show’s creator, Gilligan, before the premiere, and learned the strange events in the trailer are caused by a virus that forces everyone to be overly optimistic. The trailer suggests Rhea Seehorn’s character, Carol, is unaffected by this virus, and the series will explore why and what that means for the world. It appears Apple TV has created another unique and unusual sci-fi show, unlike anything else currently available on streaming platforms.
As a fan of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, I’m already hooked by the news that the same creative team is behind Pluribus. And if that wasn’t enough, it’s partially filmed in Albuquerque! Vince Gilligan even hinted to EW that he’s hidden a few Easter eggs from his previous shows within the series. Honestly, it feels like we’ll be watching not just to unravel the new story, but also to play a fun game of spot-the-reference. Consider me completely invested!
