Vince Gilligan, the creator of the hugely popular show Breaking Bad, has recently moved in a very different direction. He’s gone from telling stories about flawed criminals to exploring the mystery of aliens.
The science fiction series Pluribus premiered on November 7, 2025, and has quickly become a streaming hit. According to FlixPatrol, it’s been in the U.S. Top 10 for 100 days straight – meaning it hasn’t left the Top 10 since it first launched. For over half of those days, it even held the number one spot.
The show quickly became popular, reaching the top 10 and staying there until January 11th. It even briefly returned to the top spot a few weeks after its final episode on December 24th. Since then, it has consistently remained in the top 10, and is currently ranked sixth in the United States.
While popular, the sci-fi show isn’t the longest-running hit on streaming. Currently, Ted Lasso holds that title with 750 days in the Top 10, followed by Severance at 718 days, and The Morning Show with 627 days.
It’s no surprise this series has been so successful. It had the biggest premiere of any drama series, initially exceeding the viewership of Severance Season 2. It quickly continued to grow, surpassing Severance once more and becoming the most popular show, even outperforming Ted Lasso.
Pluribus Season 2 Is in Development
The new show brings together Gilligan and Rhea Seehorn, known for her role in Better Call Saul. Seehorn plays Carol Sturka, a rare individual immune to a virus that turns people into a single, collective consciousness.
The new show Pluribus has been a hit with critics, earning almost perfect reviews and a 98% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While viewers were a bit more split – giving it a 67% score – the show is already receiving awards, including a Golden Globe for Anna Seehorn, who won for Best Actress in a Drama Series.
Work on Season 2 is underway, but Gilligan wants to take his time and ensure it’s just as good as the first season. He doesn’t want to release anything until they’re confident in the quality.
The show is still in progress, with writing continuing. As Gilligan confirmed, “We’re making steady progress.” He also expressed gratitude to the show’s fans and team, saying, “My writers are working hard, and we all appreciate the support that’s brought us to this point.”
Making each episode takes a lot of work. We’re further along in production than I’d like, especially since we haven’t planned out many episodes yet. But it’s a similar process to how we made the first season – it just requires time.
Pluribus Season 1 is streaming on Apple TV.
