Apple TV+ has quickly become known as a great place to find science fiction shows. Series like For All Mankind, Foundation, and Invasion started the trend, and now shows like Severance, Dark Matter, Pluribus, and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters are continuing it. But arguably, Silo has done the most to bring mainstream attention to Apple TV+ and its sci-fi offerings.
Developed by Graham Yost (known for Speed and Justified) and inspired by the novels of Hugh Howey, Silo takes place in a future devastated by nuclear war. The last of humanity lives in a giant underground silo, once built to store weapons. The story follows Juliette Nichols (Rebecca Ferguson), an engineer working deep within the Silo. After a death close to her, Juliette begins investigating and uncovers long-hidden secrets that challenge those in power. This sparks a rebellion among the Silo’s residents, and Juliette unexpectedly becomes a leader, taking on the roles of Sheriff and a prominent political figure.
The show Silo successfully avoided the typical dip in quality that often happens with a second season. Season 2 built on everything from Season 1, making the story bigger and more intense. Now, we have news about when Season 3 will arrive, and reports suggest it’s going to be even better.
Rebecca Ferguson and Cillian Murphy will star together in Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, a new movie based on the hit BBC series Peaky Blinders, coming to Netflix. During an interview on Today, Ferguson also shared exciting news about Season 3 of her show, Silo, which fans will be happy to hear.
When asked about the return of Silo, Ferguson said it would be this summer, excitedly asking if the person asking was looking forward to it. He quickly clarified, though, that he didn’t have a specific release date, stating, “I don’t know the exact date, but it’s planned for sometime this summer.”
Silo Season 1 & 2 Were A Thrilling Ride (That’s More Relevant Than Ever)

Be warned, major spoilers ahead! Season 1 of Silo centers around Juliette’s investigation into the death of her partner, George, and her discovery of a conspiracy. She learns that Bernard Holland, the head of IT and the unofficial leader of the Silo, is maintaining control over the population through lies and manipulation. As a result of her findings, Sheriff Nichols was sent outside the Silo to explore the dangerous world beyond.
The second season followed Nichols as she ventured outside and found other Silos that had been destroyed. She discovered the “Safeguard Procedure,” a system created by the Silos’ builders that allowed them to release poison into any Silo, wiping out everyone inside. Realizing the danger, Juliette raced back to Silo 18 to warn the lower-level rebels about the deadly consequences of opening the doors. The season ended with Juliette battling Bernard at the entrance to Silo 18, and both of them falling into the incinerator. But that wasn’t the only shocking twist!
The second season of Silo concluded with a surprising twist, transporting viewers to a time before the Earth was devastated. The finale offered the first clues about the disaster’s origins: a scene in a Washington D.C. bar showed a reporter, Helen, investigating a U.S. congressman about a story concerning America’s response to Iran after a suspected dirty bomb attack within the country.
Silo Season 3 Will Be A Game-Changer For The Series

No one anticipated that a scene from the Season 2 finale (January 2025) would completely change how we understand the history of Silo. This reinterpretation feels especially powerful now, given the rising tensions between the US and Iran and the possibility of a global war, potentially involving nuclear weapons – something the show’s creators didn’t foresee.
Rebecca Ferguson confidently predicted the next season of the show will be exceptional, unlike many series that decline over time. In an interview with Today, she explained that while most shows tend to lose steam, this one is actually improving with each season. She described it as unusual, but believes the storylines are consistently getting stronger.
Season 3 of Silo needs to address the uprising at Silo No. 18, but it will also likely show us more of the larger, troubled world Juliette Nichols is trying to understand. Hopefully, we’ll also see flashbacks that reveal the history of this world and explain the significance of seemingly small objects, like the PEZ dispenser.
Fans can expect Season 3 of Silo to arrive on Apple TV+ this summer. Apple has confirmed the show will continue, but Season 4 will be the last. Join the conversation about Silo on the ComicBook Forum!
