Apple TV+ has quickly become known for its high-quality original shows like Ted Lasso, Severance, Dark Matter, Pluribus, and Silo, making it a worthwhile streaming service. It’s also a great place to find compelling spy thrillers, including the critically acclaimed Slow Horses starring Gary Oldman. But another excellent spy series on Apple TV+ is flying under the radar and deserves more attention, despite the praise Slow Horses receives.
Tehran is a thrilling spy series originally broadcast in Israel and now available worldwide on Apple TV+. The show’s third season premiered on January 9, 2026, and has quickly become popular on the streaming platform, even without a lot of publicity. According to FlixPatrol, Tehran is currently the second most-watched show on Apple TV+, surpassed only by Pluribus. Notably, all other shows in the Top 10 have been available for much longer, with Hijack and The Last Frontier being the only ones released within the last 100 days.
There’s a lot of buzz around Pluribus after its first season ended on December 24, 2026. Meanwhile, the third season of Tehran began streaming on Apple TV on January 9, with new episodes released weekly until February 27. While the full season already aired in Israel between December 2024 and January 2025, this marks the first opportunity for international audiences to watch the latest installment of this popular show.
What Fans Can Expect From Tehran Season 3

Tehran is an exciting Israeli spy thriller available on Apple TV+. The show centers around Tamar Rabinyan (played by Niv Sultan), a Mossad agent sent on a mission to Tehran. What makes Tamar unique is that she was born in Tehran as a Jewish Iranian woman. The series has gained popularity, attracting well-known actors for its second and third seasons. Glenn Close joined the cast in Season 2 as Marjan Montazami, a British Mossad agent, and Hugh Laurie (known for his role in House) joined in Season 3 as Eric Peterson, a South African nuclear inspector.
The series includes conversations in Hebrew, Persian, and English, and continues to spark debate due to its connection to current events. Apple TV initially had concerns about the plot of season three, which involved nuclear weapons, because it mirrored real-life situations in Israel, but ultimately released it. Now, season four has undergone significant revisions because its storyline became too close to recent escalations of conflict in Israel.
At the end of last season, Tamar made a risky move that cost her boyfriend his life. Now, in Season 3, she’s still dealing with that loss when a nuclear scientist reaches out for help. He’s discovered something alarming during an inspection, and needs her expertise. Because everyone thinks Tamar is dead, helping him is incredibly dangerous, but she quickly understands the serious threat and knows she must get involved.
