Despite some criticism regarding AI voices and gameplay balance, Embark Studios’ ARC Raiders is gaining more players. The North Line Update launched last Thursday, kicking off the first community event where players worked together to unlock the new Stella Montis map. And it worked – the map became available for everyone to enjoy before the weekend!
Raiders explored the newly released map, looking for supplies and weapons, and encountered new enemies, including a massive boss called the Matriarch. The game hit a peak of 481,966 players on Steam yesterday, November 16th, setting a new all-time record. In comparison, its main competitor, Battlefield 6, reached 299,135 concurrent players, even with its free battle royale mode factored in.
Yesterday, the popular extraction shooter Escape from Tarkov reached almost 48,000 concurrent players. However, many players experienced login problems, and the game also received criticism for linking a separate launcher to the Steam version – this meant playtime was recorded even when players weren’t actively playing. Consequently, the game currently has a “Mostly Negative” rating on Steam, with only 31% of its 17,907 user reviews being positive.
