Arc Raiders, which is launching later this week after a long period of testing, might be a game better suited for the next generation of consoles, like the PS6, than the current PS5.
There’s talk that Sony is working on a new PlayStation console expected around 2027 or 2028. Meanwhile, the studio behind Arc Raiders, Embark, is planning a huge, long-term project. They aim to support the game for ten years with substantial updates and content after its initial release – similar to what Bungie did with Destiny. Early reactions suggest this ambitious plan has a lot of potential.
In a recent interview at TwitchCon (reported by MP1ST), Embark’s design director, Virgil Watkins, revealed the team views their new game as a long-term project, envisioning support for at least ten years. They already have plans for content updates immediately following launch, but future development will largely depend on how well the game performs.
Executive producer Aleksander Grondal recently shared that upcoming content will feature new maps, storylines, and quests, along with other updated game systems. The team has a large and exciting plan for updates after the game launches, and they’re eager to see how players respond.
The developers have announced a new map called Stella Montis will be added after launch. They also plan to share a detailed roadmap in the next few days outlining all the content updates planned for 2026.
Arc Raiders is launching with a unique price point for the video game market at £32.99 / $39.99 – it’s not free-to-play, but also isn’t a full-priced game. This puts it in an interesting position between bigger titles like Battlefield 6 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, potentially making it harder to attract players. Despite this, early testing has been positive, and Arc Raiders is still predicted to be a significant release.
