Now that the remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved – called Halo: Campaign Evolved – has been announced, we thought it would be fun to test your knowledge of where the Halo story started.
Released in 2001, Halo: Combat Evolved completely changed the landscape of console first-person shooters. From the moment players first touched down on the iconic Halo ring to the thrilling warthog missions, it established a benchmark for compelling stories, open-ended gameplay, and enjoyable multiplayer experiences – a standard that many games continue to try and meet today.
Halo didn’t rest on its success. Halo 2 improved the experience with online multiplayer through Xbox Live and a compelling story that left players eager for the next installment. Then, Halo 3 delivered a remarkably satisfying ending – a defining moment for Xbox fans and a true sense of closure.
This quiz is designed to celebrate the launch of Halo: Combat Evolved! It mainly tests your knowledge of the original game, but also includes a few questions from Halo 2 and Halo 3. We’ll cover everything from famous missions and quotes to the really specific details that only dedicated fans will know – let’s see how well you remember the trilogy that began the Halo story.
If you made it to the end, nice work! This quiz was never meant to be easy.
With a new Halo game coming next year, we decided to look back at the original *Combat Evolved* – and touch on *Halo 2* and *Halo 3* too. Those sequels expanded on the first game’s ideas, each adding its own unique elements and ultimately helping to create the *Halo* franchise we know and love today.
I designed the quiz to start easy and gradually become more challenging, with the final questions aimed at dedicated fans who are really familiar with the details. It seems that last question was particularly difficult, likely only solvable by those of us who are deeply invested in the story and all its background information.
No matter how well you did, we hope this experience showed you just how rich and complex the Halo universe is, and got you excited to return to the fight when the new campaign releases.
