Edgar Wright’s new movie based on Stephen King’s The Running Man comes out next week, and people are already responding positively. Critics are especially impressed with Glen Powell’s acting, the film’s exciting and satirical style, and how closely it follows King’s original story. Some are even calling it the best Stephen King adaptation of the year – and it’s been a strong year for King adaptations! Now, the film is receiving high praise from Arnold Schwarzenegger, who starred in the 1987 version of The Running Man.
On Instagram, Wright posted a video of Arnold Schwarzenegger reacting to the film. Schwarzenegger praised both the director and Powell, saying the new version surpassed his own original by building upon what had come before.
Arnold Schwarzenegger said he always wished someone would remake Running Man, and he’s thrilled that someone finally did. He described the new version as fantastic, with incredibly creative and exciting action.
Wright didn’t just let Schwarzenegger talk about The Running Man in the video he shared. He also paid tribute to the actor and the film with a fun Easter egg: Schwarzenegger’s face appears on the $100 bills featured in the movie’s futuristic setting. Wright even gave Schwarzenegger a large prop bill as a gift.
Schwarzenegger’s The Running Man Praise Is a Big Deal

As a huge fan, I was so excited to hear Arnold Schwarzenegger give his stamp of approval to the new Running Man movie! His 1987 film is a classic, and even though it wasn’t exactly like Stephen King’s book, it’s always been his movie in a lot of ways. It means a lot that King himself not only likes the new adaptation, but actually thinks director Edgar Wright improved on his original idea – and finally got the version he always wanted! Plus, this isn’t the first time Arnold’s been supportive. He apparently told the producers it’s the first time Stephen King’s vision for The Running Man has really been brought to life on screen, and that’s a fantastic endorsement.
With Stephen King himself giving the new The Running Man a thumbs-up, it looks like fans might finally get the adaptation they’ve been hoping for. King described the film as “DIE HARD for our time. A bipartisan thrill ride” online, and considering he’s known for being honest about movie adaptations of his books, that’s a really strong endorsement.
Stephen King is having a moment! With so much positive attention on recent projects, 2025 could be a standout year for his work. This year has already seen successful adaptations like The Monkey, The Life of Chuck, and The Long Walk, plus the popular TV series IT: Welcome to Derry. And with The Running Man looking promising, it’s a fantastic time to be a Stephen King fan. Hopefully, this translates into strong ticket sales when The Running Man hits theaters on November 14th.
