Artwork of Deviation’s Cancelled PS5 Project Surfaces

In 2021, the newly established game studio called Deviation Games, led by Call of Duty veteran Jason Blundell, made a big splash. They were revealed to be collaborating with Sony on a completely fresh, original intellectual property.

But Blundell eventually left and the studio was shuttered in 2024.

Thanks to some concept art discovered by MP1st, we now have a clearer understanding of the project the developer has been working on.

The pictures, originating from the artist Michael Lacek during his tenure as Lead Concept Artist, support a science fiction motif. One image stands out in particular, depicting a breathtaking cosmic vista.

Other works depict diverse weapons ideas, such as the Power Glove, which features Tesla coils and intriguing aspects.

Various pieces display unique weapon designs, like the Power Glove that sports Tesla coils and captivating components.

Additionally, you’ll find art depicting a bearded figure known as Berserker, who we believe could have represented a playable character with a specific class type.

Since several members of the team at Deviation Games previously worked for Treyarch, particularly on the Call of Duty Zombies game mode, it’s reasonable to assume that their current project might involve a cooperative first-person shooter game style.

Of course, the project is long dead now and these concepts will never see the light of day.

Interestingly enough, after his departure, Blundell is now back with Sony, this time working for a fresh in-house studio called Dark Outlaw Games, which Sony publicly recognized as a first-party developer earlier in 2022.

I’d be optimistic if that studio manages to have better fortune than Deviation Games, and successfully bring their project to an end.
