Man, just when I was starting to feel good about Ubisoft – Assassin’s Creed Shadows was actually really solid – they’ve thrown everything up in the air again. They’ve straight-up cancelled the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, and now they’re restructuring with these new ‘Creative Houses.’ Apparently, that means a bunch of games are delayed – seven of them, actually. And get this – that unannounced game we were supposed to see this year? Well, according to Tom Henderson over at Insider Gaming, it was a remake of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag! Seriously, what’s going on over there?
The game was originally planned to be finished in early February and released digitally on March 19th. Now, however, it’s expected to launch in 2027. While the reason for the delay is unknown, insider Henderson speculates that the extra time will allow the developers to fix potential bugs. He admits the delay is disappointing, but believes the final product will be much better as a result.
Rumors began circulating in 2023 about a remake of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, potentially called Black Flag Resynced. Originally planned for a 2025 release, the project was reportedly delayed due to issues with Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Last year, artists from Play Arts and actor Matt Ryan, who voiced Edward Kenway in the original game, hinted at the remake’s development, and sources suggested it would include new content.
Fans were excited about potential improvements to the game’s map and weather in Shadows, but concerned that it would remove the modern-day sections they enjoyed. A rating suggested an announcement was coming soon, but now it seems the project might be cancelled, leaving fans hoping it isn’t.
Originally, the developers intended to release the Black Flag Remake digitally on March 19th. They were aiming to finish the game – meaning it was ready for distribution – by the first week of February.

Looking back, the release was probably delayed because the software wasn’t quite ready and had some issues. It’s frustrating now, but the final version will be much improved.
