Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Remake Officially Confirmed by Ubisoft

For months, rumors have circulated about a remake of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. While Ubisoft hadn’t officially confirmed it, multiple reports strongly suggested the game was in development. Recently, Ubisoft finally acknowledged what many already knew: a remake is happening, and it’s titled Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced.

Ubisoft recently shared updates about the future of the Assassin’s Creed series on their blog. They discussed Assassin’s Creed Shadows, as well as two other upcoming projects – a single-player game called Codename Hexe with a darker tone, and a multiplayer title known as Codename Invictus. They then addressed the recent rumors that have been circulating.

Rumors about the next Assassin’s Creed game are always circulating, and the series famously says, ‘Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.’ However, this time, some of the recent rumors seem more credible. It’s worth paying attention to what’s being said.

Official Details Around the Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Remake Are Slim

After a paragraph hinting at the game’s pirate theme, concept art was released that officially confirmed the title and showed the main character, Edward Kenway, standing on the rigging of a ship. It’s important to note this isn’t actual gameplay footage, meaning more details and visuals will be shared later.

We don’t know exactly when the new details about the Black Flag remake will be revealed. Earlier reports suggested a release in early 2026, but it’s now clear that won’t happen in the next few weeks. Ubisoft delayed the remake – originally a beloved game from 2013 – back in January. Currently, the game, which was previously listed as a mystery title, is expected to launch before March 31st, 2027, the end of Ubisoft’s financial year.

Ubisoft hasn’t typically remade their games, including the Assassin’s Creed series, so it’s unclear exactly what changes are coming with the remake of the original, currently called Resynced. Early reports suggest it could feature more role-playing elements, a completely reworked combat system, and more side quests, while significantly reducing or eliminating the modern-day storyline. However, there’s been some discussion that the extent of the role-playing features might be adjusted based on player feedback.

For a while now, rumors have been circulating about a remake of an Assassin’s Creed game. These were fueled by hints from Matt Ryan, the voice actor for Edward Kenway, and confirmed by various reports. Evidence also appeared on a ratings board in December 2025. The official Assassin’s Creed social media team playfully acknowledged the growing speculation when a figurine of Edward Kenway surfaced online; they responded with a meme referencing Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, suggesting they were bracing for the announcement.

Ubisoft has been facing challenges with its Assassin’s Creed games and remake projects recently. They’ve reportedly cancelled a cooperative Assassin’s Creed game and also scrapped the remake of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, even though it was nearly finished.
