Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe is Helmed by Batman: Arkham Origins Director

Although Ubisoft only released one major game, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, last year, they have several projects planned for 2026. These include potential updates to Shadows—possibly with a new co-op feature—and remakes of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. However, fans are also wondering about the next major installment in the Assassin’s Creed series, currently known as Codename Hexe.

First revealed in 2022 with the announcement of Shadows (originally called Codename Red), Hexe is said to be a story-driven game with some freedom to explore. It’s also expected to be the most mature and unsettling installment in the series so far. Interestingly, Benoit Richter, who previously worked on the Batman: Arkham games—including Batman: Arkham Origins—is directing the game, as noted on his LinkedIn profile.

WB Games Montreal created the prequel, which came out in 2013 and was generally well-received. However, it’s mostly remembered for not being heavily connected to Rocksteady’s core Arkham games. Richter has also contributed to other Ubisoft projects, including Transference and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

Although a release date for Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe hasn’t been announced, current rumors suggest it will come out after Shadows receives all of its planned post-launch support. This likely means a release sometime in 2027, with a year of downloadable content and updates expected beforehand, though those plans are subject to change.
