Marc-Alexis Côté, who led the Assassin’s Creed franchise, has left Ubisoft. IGN reports that this departure appears to be due to differing visions between Côté and the leadership at Vantage Studios, a newly formed company. Before leaving Ubisoft, Côté was reportedly offered a leadership role at Vantage Studios.
Christophe Derennes, co-CEO of Vantage Studios, has said he’s disappointed to see Côté leave, explaining that Côté had a different vision for the studio’s direction. Ubisoft confirmed Côté’s departure and thanked him for his work leading the Assassin’s Creed series.
Ubisoft announced that Marc-Alexis Côté has left the company after a restructuring in March 2025. A spokesperson said they were sorry to see him go, but believe their teams will continue the progress he made.
We’re incredibly thankful for Marc-Alexis’s years of work, especially his role in making *Assassin’s Creed* the popular franchise it is today. He’s been a creative and dedicated leader who’s positively impacted both our team and our players. We sincerely appreciate everything he’s done and wish him all the best in the future.
Jonathan Côté has been with Ubisoft since 2005, contributing to games like *Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands*. He first worked on the *Assassin’s Creed* series as a level designer for *Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood* in 2010. He later became game director on *Assassin’s Creed 3* and continued to work on various titles within the franchise. Côté’s first role as senior producer was on *Assassin’s Creed Odyssey*, after which he led the development of the Animus Hub.
Vantage Studios officially opened its doors earlier this month. Led by Co-CEOs Christophe Derennes and Charlie Guillemot, the studio will focus on major Ubisoft franchises like *Assassin’s Creed*, *Far Cry*, and *Rainbow Six*. The team includes developers from various locations, including Montréal, Quebec, Sherbrooke, Saguenay, Barcelona, and Sofia.
According to Ubisoft, Vantage Studios is the first part of a larger plan to reshape the company. They intend to create more studios like it and unite their games under a common creative vision and shared development skills. Ultimately, Vantage Studios – and future studios – aim to build closer relationships between game developers and the players who enjoy their games.
Ubisoft revealed plans in March to create a new company focused on its biggest game franchises. Tencent invested €1.16 billion in the venture, receiving a 25
