Astronaut Kellie Girardi Shares She’s Pregnant After Losses

Kellie Gerardi has space-tacular news.

The astronaut revealed, approximately six months later, that she was now six weeks pregnant – following four prior pregnancy losses she had disclosed earlier.

Kellie posted a video on Instagram after crying joyfully in her IVF clinic’s parking lot on August 28. In the caption, she revealed that she and her husband Steven Baumruk share a 7-year-old daughter named Delta. The ultrasound she was getting showed a tiny flicker of life, which meant everything to her. Although they still have a ways to go, if Kellie and this miraculous embryo can hold out for a few more weeks, she might finally complete her journey at the IVF clinic.

In the video, the 36-year-old included a caption at the top which said, “Point of View: A 6-week pregnancy scan to check for a heartbeat after a loss.” (Or more casually, “POV: Scan at 6 weeks to confirm a heartbeat following a loss.”)

In the touching video, her emotions were clearly evident as she learned some positive news from the doctor, taking an ultrasound printout with her when she left the office.

As a lifestyle expert, I might say: “After carrying the weight of my secondary infertility struggles for weeks, in my latest video, I expressed relief – not victory, as there’s still a way to go – but optimism, hoping that my little miracle is growing strong, baby, grow!

The researcher’s update emerges nearly a year following her initiation of IVF treatments last autumn, an experience she has been vocal about and transparently shared with her online audience.

Kellie, set for a space journey next year, disclosed that she underwent another series of In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) treatments in June after experiencing a miscarriage in February.

She expressed on Instagram that this period is a mix of intense sweetness and sadness for her, as her feelings are scattered due to the lingering shock from her loss. Yet, she’s making an effort to focus on hope and positivity. She mentioned they have three embryos and at least two chances for transfer attempts this summer (given the current schedule of her research crew’s spaceflight in 2026). If both attempts this summer were unsuccessful, they would try the third embryo after 2026.

Indeed, Kellie, who has been sharing her IVF and embryo transfer journey publicly for several months, recently announced that she was ready to share a new kind of update with her online followers.

She expressed that it’s a complex mix of emotions for her due to the recent loss she’s experienced, with feelings fluctuating widely because she’s still coming to terms with the shock. Yet, she’s making an effort to focus on hope and positivity, as she shared this on Instagram earlier. She also mentioned that they have three embryos and at least two chances for transfer attempts this summer, which is connected to a scientific spaceflight her research team is scheduled for in 2026. If both transfer attempts fail this summer, they would try the third embryo after 2026.

Kellie, who’s been open about her IVF and embryo transfer journey for several months, announced that she was ready to disclose a new type of news to her online followers.

She mentioned in an Instagram post on August 28 that she intended to disconnect by posting and then disappearing (ghosting), turning off her phone, and mourning again. However, instead, she received the long-awaited news she had been hoping for.

In simpler terms, Kellie expressed that although she and her doctor understand there are still challenges ahead, she is determined to appreciate each day she wakes up pregnant. She also has strong optimism to overcome the initial phase of pregnancy and complete her IVF treatment successfully this time around.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d put it this way: Being a part of the Duck Dynasty clan, Jacob Mayo and his wife have courageously chosen to share their personal journey with infertility on their latest reality series. They believe in shedding light on this often overlooked aspect of family life, hoping to inspire and support others facing similar challenges.

In the show, we’ve chosen to discuss the topic of infertility, which is not something we’ve openly talked about much until now. Bella shared this during a joint interview with Jacob in May 2025 for Us Weekly. She emphasized that people may not realize what someone else is experiencing just by looking at their social media presence, as everyone has their own hidden struggles.

The experience felt genuinely fitting for them, enabling the duo to express themselves authentically on the novel series.

In two years prior to the joyous news of the ex-Miss Universe and Christian McCaffrey anticipating their first bundle of joy, she candidly discussed her struggle with endometriosis and its potential impact on her future fertility. As a devoted fan, I can’t help but empathize with her journey, hoping for the best while acknowledging the challenges that lie ahead.

Culpo expressed concerns about having children due to her medical condition, which she was diagnosed with in 2020 and underwent surgery for. She mentioned that it might prove challenging for her to conceive in a November 2022 episode of The Culpo Sisters.

She explained that Endometriosis may impact your fertility in various manners. For instance, endometrial tissue might grow around or even on your ovaries, potentially influencing egg quality, and could lead to scarring of the fallopian tubes.

As a devoted admirer, I want to share that Caelynn, from Bachelor Nation, recently posted an honest message about her and her husband Dean Bell’s struggles with conception in the years following their 2023 wedding.

In a YouTube video posted in March 2025, I confess, “It’s been quite a challenge for me.” However, I must share that I’ve significantly eased off the self-imposed strain compared to those initial trying months.

Despite finding the process emotionally taxing, Caelynn continues to maintain a hopeful attitude while they undergo medical tests to “uncover the mystery” or “discern the cause.

The host of “Dancing With the Stars” has openly discussed her battles with endometriosis, a condition affecting women’s reproductive health. In anticipation of starting a family when she feels it’s right, she’s been actively working on preserving her fertility.

In June 2025, she shared that she froze her eggs for the third time.

Ever since Sonny joined the family with husband Tim Rosenman in 2017, the Hills alum has openly discussed her experiences with fertility struggles, including two miscarriages she suffered herself and also her surrogate’s subsequent losses.

In July 2024, Whitney confirmed she’s preparing for a second egg retrieval.

She expressed that she was noticeably improved compared to her previous session due to having a better understanding of what to anticipate, and she had an immense amount of confidence and belief in her physician.

Regardless of the events that transpire as they prepare for a second child, Whitney has consistently made it clear that her family of three is complete without any shortcomings.

On your 7th birthday in July 2024, as we move forward on our second journey of parenthood, she expressed her sentiments by stating that you have always completed our family, no matter the circumstances. You are truly a blessing to us, and we cherish every moment of witnessing your growth. Our gratitude for your calm demeanor knows no bounds.

The actress from “Everything Everywhere All At Once” revealed in past interviews that she faced difficulties when trying to have children with her initial spouse, Dickson Poon, before marrying Jean Todt in 2023 following an engagement spanning nearly two decades.

Michelle opened up during her podcast interview in November 2024, expressing a long-held desire for parenthood. She underwent fertility treatments to make this dream a reality, but admitted that the monthly trials associated with these treatments were incredibly difficult and left her feeling like she was falling short.

As a diligent adherent, I found myself reflecting upon her words: “Eventually, one learns to cease self-blame. There are aspects within our bodies that may not operate as expected. Such is life. It’s about releasing control and forging ahead.

The musician, who is the parent of child Wilde with partner Maximillion Cooper, previously opened up about a distressing miscarriage during her acting stint on the television show ‘Eve’, which occurred as a result of an ectopic pregnancy.

In her memoir titled “Who’s That Girl?“, Eve revealed that she discovered she was pregnant in 2006. Due to an emergency surgery, she needed to halt filming for a fortnight. She admits to having deceived everyone on set about her appendix bursting, perhaps because she was also deceiving herself.

If the thought of potentially losing my baby crossed my mind, I wasn’t sure if two weeks would suffice emotionally for recovery. In the end, those two weeks barely provided enough physical healing time before I returned to work, as my body, weakened by surgery, had become very fragile, and I had lost a significant amount of weight.

The actress from the show “Selling Sunset,” who gave birth to her son Austin when she was just 15 years old, has been open about her and her husband Romain Bonnet’s experiences with fertility issues.

In September 2024, she shared with TopMob News that the outcome is uncertain because they are simply dealing with each situation as it arises. She has been incredibly busy lately with her book project, the ongoing season, and other commitments, so she believes that if she’s stressed or rushing around, nothing positive will happen.

Besides having a surgical procedure to correct a septate uterus (a condition where the uterus is split by a membrane), Mary shared that she and Romain aren’t in a hurry to make choices, instead finding contentment with their pet dog.

The real estate agent mentioned that they have a pet cat named Thor, and Romaine is deeply fond of him. If the deal doesn’t work out, Romaine says he’ll manage fine because he has his beloved cat. Essentially, they believe everything will turn out as it should.

The NFL sports commentator and her spouse, Jarret Stoll, who became parents to a son named Mack in July 2023, have experienced their own set of challenges and triumphs during their parenthood journey-with Erin’s cervical cancer diagnosis in 2017 being one of those hardships they had to overcome together.

After freezing her eggs prior to her fight against cancer, she subsequently went through In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) as a means to have a child. This personal journey led her to openly share her story with the world.

She shared in her 2021 essay that she had grown weary of staying silent about her struggles. She described the experience as a tough, painful journey where she felt numb and compared it to being a robot on an unjust roller coaster ride, which often resulted in receiving unfortunate news.

She stated, “I am open with my feelings, and I can express sincerely how difficult the situation is, empathizing with many couples and families struggling with infertility.
