Wearable technology is rapidly evolving, with significant advancements particularly in augmented reality and smart glasses.
I’ve been following the AR glasses market, and XREAL is definitely a leading name. They just announced a really interesting collaboration with ASUS at CES – new AR glasses specifically designed for gaming. What’s particularly impressive is that the ASUS ROG XREAL R1 glasses are the first of their kind to feature dual micro-OLED displays running at a super-smooth 240Hz.
AR glasses are already improving how people game, no matter where they are—at home, in bed, or on the go. But the ROG XREAL R1, unveiled at CES 2026, aims to be the very best option on the market. Here’s a look at what it offers and why it might be a better choice than XREAL’s current glasses.
Peak performance for gaming on the go

I tested the XREAL One Pro and found it to be the best AR glasses available. The new ASUS ROG XREAL R1 shares many features with the XREAL One Pro, especially its excellent optics. This means you get a wide 57-degree field of view – like viewing a 171-inch screen privately – and the clearest possible see-through experience.
These glasses boost the refresh rate to an incredibly fast 240Hz and reduce lag from 3 milliseconds to just 2 milliseconds. These improvements are especially important for competitive gamers. Beyond these key features, there are other ways these glasses compare and contrast with others.
The ROG XREAL R1 uses the same great Bose speakers, automatically adjusts brightness with electrochromic dimming, and tracks movement in three dimensions. However, it doesn’t include the advanced XREAL X1 chip for spatial computing or compatibility with the XREAL Eye, which adds six-dimensional tracking. It’s slightly heavier at 91 grams – about 4 grams more than the previous model – but still remains lightweight for augmented reality glasses.
ASUS and XREAL combined the strengths of the popular XREAL One Pro glasses and significantly improved their performance for gaming.
ASUS created the ROG XREAL R1 glasses specifically to work seamlessly with devices like the Xbox Ally handheld, offering instant plug-and-play compatibility via USB-C. For devices without USB-C display output, ASUS is also releasing the ROG Control Dock, which includes DisplayPort and two HDMI 2.0 ports for connection.
Essentially, the ASUS ROG XREAL R1 prioritizes gaming performance by streamlining some of the advanced features found in the XREAL One Pro, like spatial tracking and tools for productivity. Since AR glasses are already great for gaming, this partnership feels like a natural fit. Plus, it’s likely to be a considerable upgrade over the ASUS AirVision M1 glasses I previously tested.
The release of the ASUS ROG XREAL R1 AR glasses is planned for the first half of 2026, but the price isn’t available yet. We’ll share the cost as soon as we know it.
