Fans likely won’t see a continuation of the story after Attack on Titan, as the creator, Hajime Isayama, has indicated the Scout Regiment’s story is complete. However, the series remains incredibly popular, and its final movie, Attack on Titan: The Last Attack, recently had a re-release in Japanese theaters. Interestingly, a manga recommended by Isayama is now getting its own anime adaptation, and some believe it could be just as impactful as the story of the titans.
Created by Ayaka Katayama, the manga series Fungus And Iron began in 2021, giving it a substantial amount of story for its initial season. The story centers on a world where humanity is controlled by fungi, and follows Dante, a soldier who appears to be the only one unaffected by the mind control. After joining a resistance group called Aether, Dante sets out to liberate humankind. The series uses iron as a key weapon against the fungi and received high praise from the creator of Attack on Titan. While Hajime Isayama isn’t currently working on a new manga (that we know of), he clearly remains engaged with the manga scene. An anime studio hasn’t been announced yet, but a first look at the anime’s visuals is available below.

Fungus And Titans
Ayaka Katayama, the creator of Fungus And Iron, shared her excitement about the upcoming anime adaptation. She admitted she was initially hesitant but is now thrilled to finally announce the project. Katayama expressed deep gratitude to the anime production team for their faithful recreation of the world of Fungus And Iron, and to the readers who made this opportunity possible. She’s eager to see her characters, Dante and his friends, come to life on screen and is looking forward to the anime’s portrayal of the story’s unique and mysterious world. She asks fans to anticipate the release with excitement!
Even though the main story of Attack on Titan has finished, the world isn’t completely done with yet. Hajime Isayama, the creator, has continued to add to the story with short stories after the original series ended. The most recent one focused on Captain Levi’s difficult childhood. While this particular story probably won’t become an anime, it’s great to see Isayama revisiting the world of the Survey Corps, even after the events surrounding Eren Jaeger and other characters.
