Aubrey Plaza Deactivates Instagram One Week After Jeff Baena’s Death

Aubrey Plaza is taking a step back from social media as she mourns the death of husband Jeff Baena.

Approximately a week and a half since the director’s demise at 47 years old, it appears that the actress from White Lotus has suspended her Instagram activity. The page now shows an error message such as “page not found” or “no photos available” when attempting to access it.

As a devoted admirer and frequent collaborator with Baena across various ventures during the past ten years, I was deeply saddened to learn that he took his own life on January 3rd, as confirmed by the medical examiner’s records in Los Angeles.

In a statement acquired by TopMob News on January 6th, Plaza and the Baena/Stern family expressed their profound sorrow, stating that the situation they’re facing is almost incomprehensible. They are thankful for the kindness shown by everyone who has offered support. At this difficult time, they kindly ask for privacy.

In 2011, Plaza and Baena primarily maintained a low-profile in their relationship. However, prior to their wedding, the actor from “Parks and Recreation” had confirmed their union via Instagram posts.

I’m incredibly proud of my wonderful husband, Jeff Baena, for envisioning yet another film that transports us to the beautiful landscapes of Italy, causing a bit more mischief along the way. Writing this while immersed in the making of ‘Spin Me Round’.

After Baena passed away, numerous friends and work associates have been expressing their tributes on social media platforms.

“As a die-hard admirer, let me tell you about Jeff Baena, a Miami-born, Jewish whiz who left an indelible mark on my career,” Adam Pally posted on Instagram January 5th. “He was more than just a colleague or director; he was a guiding force, shaping my work and inspiring me. And let’s not forget his scrappy basketball skills, despite that less-than-stellar jump shot!

The actor went on to say, “He was exceptionally skilled as a director, always having exquisite ideas and foresight. He wasn’t just a director; he brought people together, ignited potential, and seemed to always know the perfect restaurant in any city. He was an incredibly generous host, welcoming anyone with open arms, almost too open-minded at times. He knew films inside out, serving as a walking film encyclopedia. To me, however, he was more than just a professional acquaintance; he was my friend.

Aubrey Plaza and Jeff Baena have been fairly quiet about the early stages of their relationship, but it all began in 2011 when they first met while playing Balderdash together.

But one thing the Parks & Recreation star divulged is that from the start, they bonded over movies.

In 2017, she shared with Page Six that her passion for films is intense. That’s the reason they are collaborating on movie projects.

Three years into their partnership, they created their first film together, titled “Life After Beth,” a project that signified Jeff’s inaugural step as a director.

Although Aubrey and Jeff usually preferred to keep their relationship private, Aubrey acknowledged that having a companion in the entertainment world comes with certain advantages.

In her interview with People in June 2019, she expressed that being with someone who shares your profession allows them to grasp what you’re experiencing more intimately. This means they can offer mutual support and truly comprehend the path each of you is walking.

But that’s not to say it doesn’t take its own work.

As a follower who appreciates art and collaboration, I find this could be truly remarkable. Yet, I acknowledge the complexities of teamwork – it’s always a bit tricky working side by side with your partner. There are many tasks we handle individually, and I believe that achieving balance is crucial.

Following a ten-year partnership, Aubrey made it official with Jeff by getting married, which she announced on social media along with a special mention of her partner. Additionally, she hinted at their upcoming fourth film titled “Spin Me Round“.

I’m incredibly proud of my wonderful husband @jeffbaena for devising another film that transports us to Italy, stirring up even more mischief. I can hardly wait to be reunited with the fantastic @alisonbrie (who also co-wrote this project!), as well as @theofficialsuperstar @sordociego and @lauren_weedman, among many other delightful folks in this production. Get ready!

Following numerous films they worked on together, Jeff emphasized that he’s more than just her spouse or director – he’s her biggest supporter.

He shared on the Reel Talker podcast in 2022 that she’s extraordinary. If she weren’t his wife, he would collaborate with her professionally, but fortunately, she is. He explained how uncommon it is to have the chance to work together creatively, where both of them are satisfied.

13 years prior to Jeff’s unexpected passing at the age of 47, he and Aubrey collaborated on their fourth and final movie together titled “Spin Me Round.” Throughout their 14-year partnership, they also produced “The Little Hours” and Aubrey featured in Jeff’s 2016 film “Joshy“.
