I used to love playing Lord of the Rings games. I have great memories of titles like The Two Towers and Conquest when I was younger, and even Shadow of War more recently. I always looked forward to exploring that world. But recently, I’ve been disappointed with each new release. While other franchises, like Star Wars, are doing really well, the lack of a truly great Lord of the Rings game is becoming really obvious.

The first episode of the animated series Where on Earth Is Carmen Sandiego? premiered on February 5, 1994. The show built upon the popular Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? computer games and game show, adding a detailed storyline to the adventures of the famous thief. Produced by DIC Productions, the series featured siblings Zack (voiced by Scott Menville) and Ivy (voiced by Jennifer Hale) as they journeyed around the world to stop Carmen Sandiego (voiced by Rita Moreno) and her criminal schemes.

The comedy really shines because it’s built on strong character growth. We see characters develop through training, revealing who’s dedicated, quick to learn, willing to cut corners, and who perseveres despite being unhappy. This makes the satisfying moments in later battles even better – fans appreciate seeing how all that hard work and struggle directly led to the victory.

Characters with unclear motives and mixed traits are often the most compelling. Their lack of simple goodness or evil creates a powerful tension that fuels many great stories. We, as readers, naturally want to understand their true nature – are they heroes, villains, or something in between? – but their strength often comes from remaining enigmatic and never fully revealing themselves.
