Highly rated by audiences (95% on Rotten Tomatoes), Forrest Gump is one of Tom Hanks’ most beloved films and earned him a second Best Actor Oscar, following his win for Philadelphia. Recently, the classic movie became available to stream on Netflix on December 4th, shortly after being added to Paramount+ and Tubi on December 1st. The film tells the story of the United States from the 1950s to the 1970s through the eyes of Forrest Gump, a kind-hearted man from Alabama with a low IQ who is determined to find the love of his life. Forrest Gump was a huge success when it came out, earning $678 million and becoming the second-highest-grossing film of 1994. It received 13 Academy Award nominations and won six, including Best Picture.

Interestingly, this situation happened twice in the same year. While audiences were enthusiastically enjoying E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial – a hugely popular, family-friendly science fiction film – two other sci-fi movies, The Thing and Blade Runner, both failed to make much money at the box office. Despite their initial lack of success, all three films are now considered classics.
