Creating a thriving franchise is surprisingly difficult. We’ve seen many science fiction movies fail and damage their potential, and even some that diminished the legacy of earlier, successful films. Despite this, a few truly great sci-fi franchises have consistently delivered entertainment beyond the two most famous examples in the genre.
Women have been essential to the success of the Avengers. Over the years, many women have significantly impacted the team’s adventures, with some becoming iconic figures in the Marvel Universe. These seven women are particularly important, as their contributions have shaped the Avengers into the group they are today.
Man, Tempest from 1981 is a seriously cool game. It’s a tube shooter with this really unique vector graphics style that makes it feel like you’re actually moving through 3D space. You control this little claw thing and basically spin around the inside of these tubes, blasting enemies as they come at you. It’s a total classic from the golden age of arcades, and honestly, it’s tough! But that’s what makes it so addictive. Everyone assumed Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three would be the big movie battle of 2026. I mean, it’s Dune, and people are really excited. But it’s going head-to-head with the Avengers’ return – a franchise that consistently makes almost two billion dollars per film, including the massive hit Avengers: Endgame. However, after seeing the teasers for Doomsday and, finally, the trailer for Dune 3, and seeing how both films are vying for prime IMAX real estate, I’m starting to think it’s Marvel who should be feeling the pressure from Dune, not the other way around.
I’m so excited! I remember playing the original Destroy All Humans back in 2005 on the PS2 – it was such a fun game, even if it didn’t get the highest scores. It did really well though, which led to Destroy All Humans 2 in 2006. I always figured the originals would stay stuck on older consoles, but Black Forest Games and THQ Nordic have been doing a great job with remakes. The first remake came to Switch already, which was awesome, but the second one never did… until now! This year, both remakes are coming to the Switch 2, and I’m especially thrilled because it means I’ll finally be able to play the remake of Destroy All Humans 2 on a Nintendo console for the first time!
