In Texas, the Krause List has singled out approximately 850 books dealing with race and LGBTQ+ narratives, leading to a wave of book bans throughout the U.S. at an alarming pace. As tensions rise, librarians are linking incidents from heated school and library board meetings across the country to expose the roots of White Christian Nationalism driving censorship initiatives. Despite encountering harassment, threats, and laws intended to punish their work, librarians’ call for the right to read is a chilling reminder of the importance of free expression.
