Having joined the project with the expectation of making a specific movie, Landon left the production just a week after Barrera’s departure. He explained, ‘I didn’t sign up to make a Scream movie; I signed up to make that particular movie. When that movie was no longer in existence, I moved on.’ Although he quickly made his decision, Landon chose not to release a public statement to manage the complicated aftermath. ‘At the time, I was still working through my feelings about everything that transpired,’ he said. ‘When things unfolded, it was something I was trying to deal with privately and fairly. People in the public eye often face criticism for not providing an immediate response or agreeing with others.’
