Pete and his collaborator penned an outstanding script for a comical take on Purge, one I still firmly believe in as being side-splittingly funny. What made this adaptation unique was its blend of terror and humor, ensuring it retained the necessary tension, while also incorporating Pete and his friends into the film. DeMonaco affirmed this to ComicBook, mentioning that he attempted to get this version greenlit but faced some resistance. He hopes that eventually, they’ll be open to more installments, after which he aims to bring Pete’s vision to life, as it’s so amusing. Despite his desire for them to see it, the higher-ups were initially resistant to a comedic adaptation, but he believes they can change their minds over time.
