The movie, Generation Um, had a promising idea – it felt like it could become a beloved indie film. It follows John, a driver for an escort service, and his two friends, Violet and Mia, as they spend a day in New York City documenting their experiences with sex, alcohol, and self-discovery using a stolen camera. While actor Reeves delivers a nuanced performance as John, the script and the film’s self-aware, ‘movie within a movie’ style don’t quite live up to his effort.
