The three days before D-Day were filled with final preparations, but one crucial factor remained uncertain: the British weather. James Stagg, Britain’s top weather forecaster, faced immense pressure to deliver an accurate prediction, putting him at odds with Allied commanders. A bad forecast could doom the massive invasion, while any postponement risked alerting German forces. Haunted by a disastrous practice run, Supreme Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower, with only his aide Captain Kay Summersby as a confidante, held the fate of the war – and millions of lives – in his hands as the deadline approached.
